Uhhh where did you get that $109.95 RRP from?

  • +6

Buy Japanese/Korean/taiwanese cookers if you're serious about cooking rice.

The Breville Rice box seriously comes close to a Tiger/Zojirushi rice cooker… Steams as opposed to boils. Heaps of built in functions too. And theyre $99!

        Doubt it.

        • +2

Doubt all you want. The quality comes down to the design techniques used (sort of resembling a pressure cooker)- where theyre almost identical to the more expensive models.

Second that……. using Breville Rice Box and it is one of the best rice cookers under $100

      • +2

Third that. I have no doubt the expensive Asian ones are just that bit better, but the Rice Box does a much better job than this Rice Cooker or similar non-pressurised models.

+1. I'm using the same one for four years cooking rice every day. Makes very nice rice.

          • @Commenter: And steaming eggs (using fast cook with the steamer basket). My sis has chickens and her eggs really difficult to peel when boiled (something about them being too fresh/the membrane not being thick enough). So easy to peel now! Steam dim sum etc regularly.

mate thanks so much for posting. While I don't have the Breville Rice Box, I never thought to use my Breville Fast Slow Pro for cooking rice. Tried it today on some cheap grains, and ended up so fluffily good.

        • Nice! I hate single purpose appliances SO much so its nice to get a few uses out of them. I'm generally reluctant unless I can think of more than 1 use.

For the life of me I cant figure out why fast/slow cookers aren't more popular. Its just a matter of pressurising/computer programning for the thermostat. I guess they can't sell as many appliances then.

If the Rice Box had a slow cooker setting it would be amazing!

      • That looks and sounds pretty awesome. I just wish it came in a little version as I generally only cook rice for myself

    • I'm on the lookout to upgrade my ricecooker, Do they come the a stainless-steel bowl as these non stick ones never last?

      • In my family we have 4x Rice Boxes between different houses. Note the Smart Rice Box is the never version, they still make both.

Our oldest one would be ~8yrs and isnt significantly scratched (just avoid using metal in them- although I'm guilty of using metal sometimes)

NO DEAL!!! This should be standard price for this model. I think I grabbed a smart rice box for $95 a while back

  • I've used this Panasonic rice cooker for more than 5 years and still in excellent condition plus it cooks best tasty rice than Asian restaurant.

  • Anybody know if it has quick cook (rice) function?

  • +1

This was around this price for ages in Costco

  • I use the $14 Kmart rice cooker >.>
