Buying Display TV - Thoughts?

Hi - Walked into TGG today. Sales Rep advised that they had the last display unit of Hisense 85R7 ULED (currently on sale at $2995 plus $250 Payback card). He said he might be able to get 15% to 20% off ticket price for the display unit. FYI i was initially looking for a 75" around $2200 but the above sounds like a good deal with an added bonus if the payback still applies.

I presume it has been on display for a year turned on during store hours. Apparently no change to warranty terms for display unit

Question - Should i get the display unit considering all of the above?

It's probably had the equivalent of about 5+ years worth of normal domestic tv viewing in that time.

  • If they give you some sort of decent warranty you should be fine I guess.

  • Maybe if it was closer to 50% off

  • Tell him you'll do $2k.

  • I'm pretty much in the exact same boat. Looking at getting the 75r7 but have been considering the 85r7 display model as a couple of my local stores still have it on display.

If for arguments sake you could get it for $2k, would anyone change their mind (based off the current voting in the poll of 15-0 in favour of no), or would you still say no and prefer to pay the same for a brand new 75" instead?

    • looks like 2k might be the sweet spot under the circumstances but the votes speak for themselves. Definitely putting me off it.

  • If the R series is anything like previous models, you can check the hours on the unit by going into the TV's settings, go to where audio balance line is, press 1969, an 'M' appears in to left corner, press settings button then navigate to options as it will show how many days and hours the set has been running for. Total hours = 24 x days + hours. At 4 hours average viewing a day, each 1500 hours is approx 1 year TV life. Seek proportionate discount accordingly.
