LG C9 55" $1800 @ The Good Guys

Hi all,

After some thoughts on this deal, my local Good Guys has the C9 55" for $1800, it's the display model, though the salesman said has only been up for a few weeks. Good deal, or is it far too risky buying an OLED display model for fear of burn in? And/or maybe it's not even a great price..

Thanks in advance.

  • Wouldn't trust the salesman, is there an option to check the run time?

It's a great price. I bought a C9 two weeks ago for $2.4k. With this pandemic, is hard to find good and cheap OLED.
C9 is gone, no stock replenishment is being made. You either buy this or go for the new model for around $3.2k, or wait until next year when the price of the CX drops.

Now is up to you to weight the risk of using a TV that has been running for most of the day over the past few weeks.

    • What size did you get for 2.4k?

      • 55"

        • Wow! That makes those deals on 55" for $1700 earlier in the year look amazing value!

@neo: Yep, but my TV broken down in the middle of a pandemic. I had no choice, even at $2.4k at that moment was the best value for the best quality I could get.

The new model CX would cost me $800 bucks more for a couple of improvements that In my opinion were not worthy the extra cash.

So is LG the OLED of choice now that Panasonic is gone? I'm considering picture quality and don't care about apps.

I think in terms of value to LG OLEDs are the best, though the Sony OLEDs could probably be said to be the 'better' TVs if you didn't care about price at all.

  • I would wait, spend a bit more, and get a BX. The B and C are very close anyway, with the upgraded processors in the X series the BX is probably as good as or better than a C9.

Wait for a CX. Don’t buy a display model.

  • Is OLED better for bright room or just go for LED TV?

    • +1

Depends on how bright it can get and what is your preference really.

If you are a cinephile who watches lots of movies in dark then definitely OLED.

If your majority of viewing is in day time and lot of regular TV and sports, then definitely a LED. OLED's highest brightness is not enough for rooms brightly lit by sunlight and reflections.

    • dhanadhan has basically nailed it. QLED is considered better for bright rooms, OLED is better overall.
