  I have one of the neweer tripods that was posted as a deal a while back, what's the benefits of buying a head like this? Does it pan smoother or something?

    360 degree flat rotation without changing the angle.
    Good for panorama stitching.

      Not really ideal for panorama stitching, as it does not have any adjustment for the nodal point of your lens and camera. So while you can nicely pan around, it will create parallax error.

    Yep, me too. Deal is over. The low profile ball head is now on lightning deal for $20.39. As is the pistol grip. Considering the pistol grip for $16.99. Looks like a great deal.
