  • Any good subwoofer deals?

Theres so many speaker deals but no subwoofer deals :(

  • So close to buying these. I was looking for some active speakers and got advice about some ruark active speakers and i got them. But thought the sound was terrible with them. These should be a big upgrade but worried about spending so much cash on these. Wish i had a store in my area to listen to them!

    • +1

Amazon AU return policy is pretty good.
If you change your mind in under 30 days you should be able to ship it back at their expense.
(Amazon’s way of letting you try them I guess)

      • Good point! Definitely an option.

    • I listened to the LS50 wireless (bigger brother to these) a while back when I was speaker shopping and they were incredible.

Reviews on these are very favourable and you can't really go wrong. For the price they are a killer speaker.

  • Would have loved to try these.. Perhaps in future. For now ended up getting two Google Home Max for $342 and paired them as stereo bookshelf speaker pair. Probably not as good as KEF. Definitely not a lot of options as KEF. But, streaming Tidal Masters or HiFi, it sounds pretty good to my ears.

KEFs optical in and subwoofer out are definitely a plus for those that would want to double these as TV speakers.

    • Where did you get the Google home max from? Seems to be $200 everywhere. Which is a good price, but still.

  • Very nice sounding speakers they are without separate audio gear in a very small and neat package. Good for a small to med room. Note wifi sounds better than Bluetooth. The only downside is the music App which is average (2 apps needed to operate) but with chromecast audio and an optical to mini optical cable you could use your music app on phone that supports chromecast instead (still will be 2 apps though, one to switch on/off, another to play music). Best feature is it makes not so perfect quality recordings/music files (I.e. not lossless) sound great as well.

    • From what I’ve read LSX comes with a small remote control.

So need just 1 App to control the music.
(I would just use Apple Music App with AirPlay 2)

      • Oh yes, that’s correct. Thanks.

        • i stream to it through spotify connect, open spotify and select the speaker through available devices.

The Remote feels very cheap for an expensive speaker, i believe the ls50w also uses the same remote. White speakers come with a white remote.

I got the white one from Appliance online this week. I called up and got it for the same price as the red $1,322

    I replaced my B&W MM-1 with these.

Pros. Compared to the mm-1 it has tighter bass response, better separation of treble, mids and lows.
Very loud and no distortion at max volume. it is more than enough for a 3x4 room. i have it at 20-30% vol most of the time.

Cons. Wifi is a bit meh, the 5ghz range is crappy, so it is hit and miss sometimes. 2.4ghz is barely okay.
it gets tiring listening at louder volume for prolonged period of time. Don't know why but mm-1 didn't have this issue.

the mm-1 was $700 new. is it twice as good? no, maybe 15% better, but now i don't have to have my computer on to listen to music.

    • Thanks for the feedback.

      Wifi is a bit meh

Do you mean WiFi connection between speakers or WiFi connection between your source device & LSX?

it gets tiring listening at louder volume for prolonged period of time.

If you have them facing you it may cause them to sound more harsh. Are they pointing at you?
I read somewhere KEF tuned the speakers to be placed facing straight.

      • wifi connection between my router and LSX, running spotify connect. 5g range is not great, 2.4g is kinda okay.

the wireless connection between the speakers is not wifi, its a propitiatory protocol. I have not tried this. I'm running the cat6 cable link between the two speakers.

Yes they are directly pointed at me on each side of the monitor. I'll do some research on where they should be pointed.

        • I'm running the cat6 cable link between the two speakers.

Yes I have read that is the better method.
So just weak WiFi got it. 5G is known to be short-on-range.

          Thanks for sharing the details.

Yes they are directly pointed at me on each side of the monitor.

Try pointing them straight, the concentric drivers should be enough to keep you in the wide sweet-spot provided by them.

          • @thebadmachine: on page 56 of the manual, it says point at the person.

            https://us.kef.com/pub/media/documents/lsx/lsx-owners-manual…

I'll place it a bit further apart tomorrow, says best between 1 to 3m apart. Currently they are 90cm apart.

The amazon echo in my study is also on 5G and have full reception. the KEF have 1 bar according to my router wifi log.

            • @Kyo Yutaka: I read online someone was experiencing fatigue with the LSX as well, and they attributed it to speakers pointing at them.
In general titanium-dome tweeters have this effect (fatiguing), so they can still point slightly inwards, but maybe straighten them a bit as this can take the edge off things.

Also maybe you were just playing too loud. I expect you will find the ideal position since you actually own the speakers.

    • Hey mate, any chance you might be able to share the invoice? I'm looking to purchase a set from Appliance online however without an invoice I don't think they'll be able to price match.

  • Are they good as speakers for home theater or for listening to music. Was looking at the Sonos arc for home theater ,do they compare?

    • +1

For HT,ideally you'd want rear channels. You cannot set that up with KEF. Sonos will give you the option to add rear channels wirelessly. I'd go with the soundbar if movies were the preference.

  • Anyone not concerned about the 1 year warranty for the active components?
