Product description

This 4.6-Quart enamel Dutch oven is great for cooking, marinating, refrigeration and freezing. The color porcelain enamel on cast iron can be used on gas, electric, ceramic, as well as in the oven. The cookware is cast from molten iron in individual sand molds then coated with multiple porcelain layers. The porcelain surface eliminates the need to season cast iron creating a smooth, hard surface that is easy to clean while maintaining superior heat distribution and heat retention. Better heat retention will actually reduce the amount of energy needed for cooking so it saves money. Tightly fitting lid seals in moisture. Stainless steel knob is oven safe to 500-Degree Fahrenheit. Not recommended for use on outdoor grills or over open outdoor flames. Not for use in microwaves. The black rim on the pot is matte porcelain, not exposed cast iron. Although dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water is recommended to preserve the cookware's original appearance. 10-Inch diameter, 4-Inch deep. Color is island spice red.

  • A flawless pairing of form and function that doesn't quit, the Lodge Dutch Oven is an enameled cast iron classic that's great for preparing and serving memorable meals.
  • WHAT IS PORCELAIN ENAMEL ON CAST IRON? It is actually glass that becomes bonded to the cast iron at high temperatures. A particulate of glass, called frit, is applied to the cast iron vessel and then baked at temperatures between 1200 and 1400° F. The glass frit melts and fuses to the cast iron, forming a bond. Porcelain enamel on cast iron is heat tolerant and impervious to water and other consumables.

Aldi have 3.7L Dutch Ovens on sale from today for $24.99. The missus picked one up this morning along with just about everyone else that was there. Can't comment on quality yet as we haven't used it but just FYI.

    • Well our kmart one is 15+yrs.

Its cast iron, what's going to happen?

Have a Chasseur Dutch Oven which I have had for 15+ years and is still going strong.

Few years ago bought some of the Aldi ones with mixed results. Fry pan going fine but the French pan with lid had the enamel on the base start flaking away, which made it unusable as didn't want enamel flakes being served in dishes!

      • Thanks for the heads up. Will keep an eye on ours as we use it but they come with 5 year warranty so can probably get it replaced anyway if that starts to happen.

      • Yeah same here with the aldi ones..

    • i had aldi dutch oven for at least 4 years. The enamel finally gave way so I chuck it out. If i were to be more careful with it, it may have lasted longer.

I am now using le creuset and can't tell the difference to be honest. for 15x more, not sure if it's a smart thing to purchase.

The aldi ones are super thin, kinda defeats the purpose of a cast iron dutch oven.

Yeah they are. I had kmart for 10 years or so, it had a pinhole in the enamel on the base and one day frying some onion a big flake of enamel just popped of - you could see it was rusty underneath where moisture had got in through the hole.

The aldi one I got to replace it is lighter and it not as good for stove top use at least, things readily stick to the bottom and burn when simmering. My daughter just moved out of home and bought a kmart one she says its heavier and much better for simmering without sticking.

All Lodge seasoned cast iron and carbon steel cookware is proudly made in the USA… Lodge Enameled Iron products are made in China

    Sneaky.

    • sneaky? how so?

      • All Lodge seasoned cast iron and carbon steel cookware is proudly made in the USA… Lodge Enameled Iron products are made in China…

Funny they use those words to describe "all" and make no mention of exceptions and later start describing something else which just so happens to pertain to the exact product in context.

All Lodge seasoned cast iron and carbon steel cookware is proudly made in the USA <- maybe if you read it this way.

But if you read the whole sentence, "All" refers to season cast iron and carbon steel

          • @jmel: I did read the whole thing hence why I quoted both parts.

It's kinda like if a major sports brand were to claim "all our athlete's shoes are made in the USA" on a Chinese made pair of shoes. It wouldn't be false but why make the statement in the first place? That statement had absolutely nothing to do with the product being sold yet any misinterpretation or oversight can only lead to one singular inference.

5l (~5.3 quarts) ones at Harris Scarfe are $50-60

    https://www.harrisscarfe.com.au/hs/Categories/Kitchen-%26-Di…

  • Dimensions : 13.56 L X 10.98 W X 4.68 H inch

    4.68inch deep only?

    • I believe so, 4.68" height without the lid.

      FYI,

Question: Hi there, in the description it states it's 10-3/4 inches but in the product information it says its 33.7x29.5 inches? Which diameter is correct?
Answer: Diameter is 300mm and height is 125mm to top of side. If you include the lid handle then the overall height is 200mm

      • Thanks mate.

  • Looks like the deal is over, although the 6qt is $129 in some colours
