It's $29.95 on steam normally. This key is for Origin which is a pain in the ass.

    • +5

Also putting any usual client preferences aside, the Steam version has full integrated Steam Workshop support (Already a few QoL mods there) which ought to be the dealbreaker.

I have the original collection on origin and I introduced my boys to it. They love it too now. Generals zero hour rocks!

  • Kane lives!

  • These were great games but not sure that it is worth $30 now.

      The key word is "Remastered".
It fulfils the same purpose that StarCraft Remastered or the Age of Empires II HD/Definitive Edition does; giving the long-standing, dedicated communities around these games and their eSports scenes a better, more stable experience online with modernised visuals and trouble-free compatibility with modern OSes.

The enhanced graphics actually let you make out the details on units, structures and terrain now as opposed to the abstract, MS Paint-quality visuals from the original games and likewise the in-game cutscenes don't have that horrendous scan-line interlacing anymore, plus Frank Klepacki's soundtrack has also been remixed and greatly improved in quality.

Playing the originals on Windows 10 and more importantly online, even in their later re-released compilation versions, required a lot of hacky workarounds and community-created tweaks and was less than ideal due to frequent inexplicable and crashes/bugs. The same goes for Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge unfortunately.

The Remastered client just makes it a seamless experience.

        Fair point

      • I wouldn't quite but it in the same realm as AoE2 HD/DE seeing as those have gotten additional content and expansions since release

        • +1

That's true and although the C&C Remastered Collection doesn't contain new factions/units, you still do get your money's worth as these releases contain a pretty hefty amount of much-needed improvements that were not in the originals and that will significantly improve the weaker aspects of the gameplay.

People forget that these games are from 1995/1996 and lack a ton of advancements in the RTS genre that were present even by the time AoE II rolled around in 1999, that make them extremely difficult to play with the same pace and macromanagement of a modern RTS.

          • Skirmish mode in Tiberian Dawn (the first C&C game).
          • Redesigned netcode, Elo-based multiplayer match-making algorithm and leaderboards.
          • Ability to save replays and play as an observer in online games.
          • Camera angle and zoom controls.
          • Unit queuing in the build menu.
          • Overhauled UI and menus with separate tabs for buildings/infantry/vehicles/aircraft to enable simultaneous construction of multiple types of units plus tool-tip overlays that display unit build times/strengths/weaknesses.
          • Overhauled key binding & input scheme customisation (perhaps the most important change as the original hotkeys were static and extremely limited).
          • Quick save support in campaign/skirmish mode.
          • Map editor.
          • Customisable in-game music player with 20 new tracks along with remastered original tracks and unreleased original tracks by Frank Klepacki.
          • All of the console-exclusive campaign levels and secret maps that were only available in console ports of the original games.
          • @Gnostikos: They have unit queuing now? Almost worth buying just for that alone

            • @OzBarAnon: Agreed, that and simultaneous construction of infantry, vehicles, aircraft and buildings will give these games a new lease on life.

Here, if you don't want to play again after watching this, then probably not the game for you:

      Official Reveal Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iMfypQj3k0

It looks like they've put the work in to make this good imo, can't wait to replay and kind of already hope they re-do 2 + 3 down the track.

  • Oh i thought this is all the series including zeroh hour and red alert 2 in 4k!

    • +4

C&C Generals and the Zero Hour expansion can already be played at modern wide-screen resolutions without issue, including 4K; there's some fairly easy-to-install resolutions hacks here and here.

The visuals still look dated obviously, but unlike the original Command & Conquer or Red Alert you don't have to put up with looking at the game through a 640x480 window.

  • Remastered means jack these days.

  • +6

Seriously? Your advising us of a a few percent discount by buying a less then ideal key at a non genuine reseller with a fake RRP no less….

    Just get Steam.

    This is awful.

  • +9

Would rather pay extra to not have to use Origin

  • "For King And Country"

"I got a present for you"

    "Hahahahaha"

    "Ion Cannon Ready"

    Ahhhhh nostalgia

  • +3

Everyone needs to buy this to support the C&C franchise. I know its EA and we hate EA, but the love for C&C is stronger than this hate. GO preorder on STEAM NOW!

    • +1

EA is the publisher but the developer is Petroglyph Games, the studio founded by ex-Westwood employees right after Westwood closed down; so you're supporting the creators of the entire franchise directly as well.

    • +1

Been a long standing C&C fan and already preordered to support the developer in hope that this gets enough sales to make a remastered Red Alert 2 possible.
