  • can be a bit greasy but these are still the best noodles bought at the supermarkets (though pricing is high)

  • No one comparing this with indomie mie goreng?

    • +3

You usually eat Indomie Mi Goreng dry, whereas this is a soup based instant noodle.

      • You usually eat Indomie Mi Goreng dry drained

        • +1

Nah it’s called dry style noodles.

          • @MuddyClear: Really? I've never heard that. I always though dry meant when kids eat it them straight out of the packet.

            • @AdrianW: "Dry noodles" is the usual translated term for noodles that are not in soup. It's a style that refers to various Chinese dishes like this one and this one where the noodles are boiled and separated from the broth. I don't know what people usually call eating instant noodles straight out of the packet.

            • @AdrianW: I hear you. But there is no marketing/restaurant term for eating them straight out of packet as no one would pay to eat noodles that way. You could call it uncooked dry style noodles…

  • Noodles dehydrated is 1100mg sodium, is 20% from 5grams of human consumption.

4 chicken nuggets is 510mg sodium from a pack of 20, that's about 50% from 5grams of human consumption.

To much over time can effect your kidneys.

  • Does anyone remember how much these cost in bulk in costco?

    • +1

Like $16 for 6 ~ Bought a few boxes before to leave it at work.

      • Costco ones are 200g/185g for Beef/Sichuan respectively, bigger (the original non-shrunken) bowls.

Will defs be trying these out.

Was at woolies a couple days ago and I saw some asian dude with 8 of these in his trolley and thought "gee that must be good, im gonna go get some". Went to the section and there weren't any left, all cleared out by this guy lol.

    Hopefully it's good

      Didn't know Broden was Asian?

Try looking at ramenrater website, he’s like the god of instant noodles.

I'm perplexed why it appears there are Chinese and Japanese words in the product. It's like seeing a product called Pad Pho

    • I prefer pad pho mee

    • +2

      Because it's Taiwanese.

    • +1

Nobody knows what Chinese and Japanese words mean but it's provocative. Gets the people going!

  • I can't speak for the pork or beef ones, but judging by everyone's response, it's pretty solid.
I would highly recommend avoiding the sichuan one. Personally found it not spicy at all, and everything about it was pretty bland. Even for $2, I wouldn't get the sichuan flavoured noodles.

Taste aside, just imagine the emissions from sending our cattle to Taiwan and back in these styrofoam bowls!

Just bought like 6 of these from Tong Li yesterday! Damn it.

    Anyway made this this morning:

Mind you, I ended up cooking it in a pot and added carrots, bok choy and shallots.

    • Did you add the meat or did that come with it?

      • +1

The meat comes with it. It's good value at $2.20 a pack.

        • How long you cooking the carrots for in the broth?

          • +6

@MuddyClear: Wasn't long. If you dice it small enough they cook quickly. I'd say the whole cook was under 10 mins?

            1. Bring water to boil
            2. Chuck in diced carrots
            3. Add flavouring satchels
            4. Let it simmer for a few minutes (5-ish)
            5. Add noodles
            6. 2 mins later, chuck in the bok choy and let it cook for 1 min
            7. Throw in the shallots and cook for however long you prefer your shallots done (I just chuck it in for colour mostly so 30 sec max)
            8. Eat the damn noodles
  • Verdict:

Flavour was good. Wasn't spicy but for some reason when having the soup on its own it kept making me cough. Noodles were alright. Not too many meat pieces and the pieces themselves were more fat than meat.

    7/10

Quite expensive even at half price. Would buy again once in a while. Not better than Mi Goreng.

    • The one tiny piece of beef is a bit of a joke imo. I wasn’t expecting it to be abundant but for $4.40 full price you’d expect a little bit more

  • Definitely cook it on a stove top, this way you get to remove the heat a little bit prematurely, enough to reach the al-dente when the noodle actually goes into your mouth. That's the Asian-level if you will. Of course, there's nothing wrong with pouring hot water into the cup for a quickie.

For myself, there are a few things I'd add to push the buck further:

    i) an extra piece of dehydrated noodle (just use any of the $1 5pack from Coles or Woolies)

ii) Rostad Lök (deep fried onion) from IKEA and chopped spring onion

    iii) an egg

iv) hot chilli powder for added oomph

    v) leftover Sunday roast for protein

  • Bought few and not good texture of the noodles at all, tastes plastic, doesn't want to soften and feel like noodles. This soup is great BUT buy it at your local Asian groceries store, bowl looks different it's wider and not as high, has different noodles, have no idea why, just does. I think weight on the pack is something between 160-190 grams written on it. Look for that version.
