Thoughts on Lexus UX200 for a purchase

Hey guys,

I am looking for a compact SUV to buy. I am planning to go for luxury brand this time. I did some research on german brands and it sounds like they pretty much fail on reliability end. I came across Lexus and looks like the reliability score is pretty damn good for Lexus.

So I am considering Lexus UX200. Definitely not a brand new but may be 2019 model to save some depreciation value?

Couple of questions:

  1. How is maintenance cost in Lexus?
  2. Do I goto official dealer to buy or do I goto local dealer? I find local dealer have slightly better cost.
  3. Any negotiation tips? :)

Thanks.

Then you would know we only do Toyotas, Hyundais and Kias here! :p

  • Just buy a RAV4 Cruiser Hybrid. Cheaper, longer warranty, cheaper servicing, more room.

    Don't be a badge w*nker. You won't impress the Jones's

Well the price is pretty much the same. The ride quality should be far superior on Lexus than in RAV4.

How do you figure with the super weak UX engine and Corolla wheelbase?

For what, new vs 1yo? 5yr warranty vs 3yrs remaining?

    To answer your questions:
    1. A lot
    2. Whoever is selling the car you want
    3. keep saving

Maintenance is on the lower end of luxury cars and sometimes about the same as a standard brand, but do not expect 'cheap'.

1: Have you tried calling a dealer or looking on the Lexus website?
2: Whom ever gives you the best deal.
3: Have you tried the search function. Lots of threads here about how to negotiate a deal… Also "JoHn CaDoGaN"…

  • If you like paying double for basically a lifted Corolla, good luck mate. UX doesn't really feel, "luxury" to be honest…

As said before, RAV4 is killer value, if you want basically a "toyota" crossover. You would get SO MUCH MORE car for the dollar. Lexus UX is not that much superior ride quality, btw…

1 - Maintenance cost is a bit more than Toyota, but not much. Hybrid, specially battery related is expensive anywhere and any brand.
2 - Any dealer, the money is all that matters. Servicing though, you do on the official dealer
3 - Negotiation tips: dont be afraid to walk away if you dont get the right deal.

    Good luck, mate.

    • Thanks mate. Appreciate the input. Cheers

    • I don't fully agree with this.
Yes the engine is weak but you still get a superior ride quality and NVH on the UX compared to a CH-R (which is the equivalent Toyota).
I wouldn't cross shop UX and RAV4 as they are different categories. NX is the cross shop for RAV4, and right now RAV4 will win as it's on the new platform while NX is still on the older platform.

Don't listen to the it's just a expensive Toyota comments, go test drive the two and see if you find any difference. If not get the Toyota. I personally find a difference between the two brand similar cars (ES vs Camry). And I know at least back in the days there was a concept of engine binning, the 2001-2005 era ES300 for every 10 Camry engine 1 would be picked for the Lexus due to the higher QC standard so yes both same engine from same production line but one passed more stringent tests.
In addition to that you usually get a better tuned body/suspension/transmission on the Lexus ones. Plus shit tone more sound deadening material and glue for structural rigidity (go checkout reviews by Savage Geese on YouTube).

Sorry I am not really contributing anything useful here; but isn't buying a UX200 is like going into Salvatore Ferragamo and only purchasing a key ring.

Nah, it's more like going to Louis Vuitton and buying the cheapest wallet they have… Just so you can show your friends and say "Yes, I too shop at Louis Vuitton…"

    • ..going into Salvatore Ferragamo and only purchasing a key ring.

errr.. something wrong with that? :p

  • Go for it. Supposedly after sales service good. You have the Toyota stamped motor, but the Luxury badge. Story. Boss bought a new NX. Went to pick it up. They had it all wrapped up with a bow. Comes over and the salesperson pulls cover off. The car was a silver champagne colour. It was meant to be black. Talk about doing the switch even after the sales contract done and being handed over.
