Aldi Air Rower - Thoughts?

https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-13-…

Wondering what people's thoughts were on the ALdi Air Rower?
Any one the brand, if its worth the $349?

Found two articles online saying the same would be "up to $1600". Hard to believe but wondering if anyone with some expertise could offer more insight:

  • Bought one last year, for $199 if I recall correctly. Haven't researched much to understand the difference between this and the earlier one.

A bit bulky (understandably so), but is not the easiest to move around. Once parked - it works just fine, no issues noticed.

    • This one looks different, the old model doesn't look like an air rower. Concept 2s are air rowers, so I assume it's a massive improvement.

    • Hmm i did find a review for the old magnetic one. Seems hard to find

      • Air rowing is definitely a step up, probably why the price increase too

        • Seems to be fair enough that it would from what I've read - still doesn't seem to be any information online about what brand they're actually going with and whether its any good for the price. I found this article online today https://www.bodyandsoul.com.au/fitness/training-tips/aldi-is… but its kind of hard to believe since they haven't actually referred to any source or named the product.

  • Does it stow away easily for when you stop using it after 2 weeks?

    • Yup, folds up making it a great clothes hanger.

      • More specifically… Towel

  • I was wondering the same thing, I was going to buy a 2nd hand Concept for around $1,000.
However, I really only want a rower to do Hitt 2 times a week and it'd be nice to find comparisons.
I know you can't compare the 2, but simply if it's solid for the price.

  • +2

    good for two workouts.
once buying it for the wife and bringing home and setting up.
second workout carrying out to store it in the garage.

    • This year's model is an Air Rower, so it should be much higher quality.

  • I'm interested in this, looking for a x-train option to compliment running, hopefully someone can find a review for this model

  • I bought a x-trainer from Aldi a few years back - it was s**t.
It was squeaky and made a clicking sound with every rotation and I could never level it properly.
Ended up serving as clothes rack before I disposed of it (in full working condition) as hard rubbish…

  • I would say Aldi get better every year with their designs, or at least try too.

Unfortunately I can't find information anywhere on the rower.

I wonder what the return fine print is like? May be worth buying and returning if garbage.

  • Basically sold out everywhere within a few minutes from what I'm reading, apparently most stores only had 2-5 units of stock.

  • Managed to get the last one at 8:31am this morning. Assembly was great. Really could teach Ikea a few things, but the unit itself is not amazing and I will probably sell or return: I have used rowers at F45 and compared to them the fan has no inertia whatsoever. This means no breeze and a brutal, unpleasant catch (comparable from starting from a dead stop each time). The foot position isn't great either - a bit low, basic strap, and the peddles are free to rotate. Didn't seem like a bargain when all is said and done.
Oh it also displays your heart rate. Not by connecting to an hrm or anything, you have to manually enter your pulse. Nice.

    • I don't feel so unlucky now, unfortunately the top towers probably used at F45 are probably Concept 2s and even used their $1400-1500.

    • Do you know any alternative, half decent air rowing machines for home use that aren't too expensive?

  • Bought one this morning. Agree with @rafraf. It’s basically unusable. Will be returning it tomorrow.

  • Bought one but haven't opened the box yet. Anyone else tried theirs? If the feedback is consistently bad, I wouldn't even bother opening the box. Some bad reviews here from yesterday… https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/aldi-air-rower.

  • From the review link above, I came to know that some people are fixing the high tension issue by loosening a spring inside. I tried this and the rower now performs quite well for the price. Its an easy fix….. taking out a few screws and stretching a spring inside. Takes 20 minutes all in. I will keep mine now.

    • Yeah, maybe I'll try this. On one hand it sucks that it's essentially unusable out of the box, but if it can be relatively easily adjusted to be usable then perhaps it I can keep it. If I change my expectations and keep in mind that it is only $350 so I can't expect gym-quality concept2 rower features and performance.

  • Yeah I just started assembling mine and got to the part where you install the pedals and thought it was odd that they freely rotate because I've never used a rowing machine or been in a boat that had pedals that moved in that way. This prompted me to google reviews on this product. I regret not doing that before opening the box.

And I'm pretty pissed off that about all these obvious marketing articles that were disseminated about this rower because nobody would say it's equivalent to a $1600 gym rower with pedals and resistance adjustment like this has.

I'm going to put it back in the box and return it.

  • 2022 version is out. Are they worth it?

    • Just got one for $150 reduced. Having set it up, it feels decent enough for the price. My row computer wasn't detecting strokes -wiring problem (currently going through the online warranty process)

      • Ended up getting a Concept2
