Wasn't there enough discussion on your deal post?

      no

    • The deals regulars can do but the forum regulars are smartre.

  • 1500 for a USA made LP studio is decent. The 90's models are pretty good, though they can be a bit on the heavy side.
The 80's MIJ stuff is hit and miss.. I'd go the Gibson any day.

  • Anything Gibson made since the end of the '90s you can just avoid… or google first and then avoid.

    • 100% agree with this comment! Played Gibson exclusively for over 15 years then bought a Fender Telecaster and I never picked up the Gibson again! I guess I’m a Fender man but it took a little time for me to figure it out! So many better options other than Gibson these days!

      • I was referring to the known quality issues, since OP seems pretty firm on wanting a Les Paul

        • That’s exactly why I never picked it up again…poor quality components and design! Broken strings and tuning problems will be a constant battle if you decide to buy a Gibson!

Love my SG Standard over LP

    • I'm the same. People think I prefer the SG because of Angus Young, but no. My preference precedes AC-DC by a long shot, he just happened to choose my preferred axe style.

So true , same here. In fact it annoys me a bit when people say that, as I am not even a big AC/DC fan. I just love the look and feel of it, nothing to do with copying anyone. If I had to nominate my favorite SG player it would prob be Tony Iommi.

        • Maybe I was sold when I was given a 12" vinyl by the Stones, Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out

The front cover says it all, that donkey has class with his choice of axe: https://i.pinimg.com/564x/ba/c8/27/bac827457d69c83310b327339…

And looking about, a helluva lot of fantastic guitarists at some time all are seen rocking out with an SG.

BTW, do you prefer the Stones in the 70's or them in their 70's?

          • @Chris Topher: the les paul i'm looking at has lollar pick ups. what do you reckon? worst or better?

            • @ilove: Too many variables and differing personal tastes to advice.

Single coil? Magnet, wire and winding differences.
Humbucker? best is 2 separate coils with 4 terminals, soooo many options, especially when you add magnets, wire, winding and capacitor/resistor differences.
Then you have pickup height and position, axe wood type, pots, leads and amps and your ears.
Les Pauls usually have decent humbuckers.

If you know why they are called humbuckers, good. If not, you are asking the wrong questions. :-)
