Or get a vintage MIJ. Still better than MIC

      • Some of the squier strats and Teles are coming out pretty decent lately. not bad at all.

    Humbucker Made in China

I'll consider buying one after Scomo puts an 80% tariff on them…

    • You could just pay the government $640, I'm sure they'd take it. Works out the same as a tariff.

      • Works out the same as a tariff.

        Not exactly…

  • I'm no guitar expert so not sure how much colour affects price, but for $40 less you can get the Faded Cherry Sunburst and $50 less the Metallic Gold over here.

I've found various retailers offering the Epiphone at $799 too

different model. this is a PLUS TOP.

Well if you go to your local music shop and offer to negotiate, I am sure they would listen, Bjay.

      • or buy from overseas

      • Will try that. Thanks.Went to few shops the other day but didn't bother negotiating as I haven't made my mind up yet

Case by case and highly dependent of the Aussie $.
There are plenty of shizen Gibsons out there too. Really is case by case, instrument by instrument

        nice to know

I think the RRP is a bit inflated. It is an OK price as stated above. I don't want to turn this into a brand vs brand, but I would rather spend my money on a guitar NOT made in China. You can opt for a PRS SE which will have similar if not better build quality and playability and depending on what you pair it with, there will be no difference in tone.

I have this made in China Epi LP pro buckers from Allans Music before.. the pots are definitely garbage.. other than that, I would say worth the 399 I paid for.. have a Japanese Ibanez RG for comparisson, way better build quality and electronics, and its a vintage 2000 Ibanez with OG floyds..

Epiphone build quality is hit and miss, as many have pointed out. They had Les Paul Juniors for around $150 for a while a few years back, if you just want the look, get one of those. If you want the sound, throw a P90 pickup in any decent guitar. The Indonesian mega guitar factory that pumps out many brands seems to have tough to beat price/quality over the last few years. But for a nice LP style axe for this $? Tokai, all day.

    • I had an Epiphone LP Std before, not a great budget guitar for a beginner to learn, so bulky, can't reach high frets, not belly cuts. Neck too chunky. Horrible PUs, bad tuners, you name it.

Ppl should have a look at Artist brand guitars, they seem to be alright. Plenty of choices to choose from, better than Squiers at this price range.

      • Check out the Guitar Gas channel. He has a heap of Artist Guitar demos.

        • I think ppl should give these models a go, since they are much cheaper than Sq or Epi

      • Each to their own I guess. I had an epi junior that came bundled with Rocksmith and it was a nimble weight and feel was good, but the frets buzzed and tuners didn’t hold very well despite a lot of setup. It was ok to learn on. I swapped it out for a epi LP which I have fallen in love with, just beautiful to play. It’s no Gibson but suits my taste in rock music.

In my early days I tried many fenders, squires and stats mainly, and owned a few Yamaha guitars but they nearly put me off the guitar for life. I don’t think would buy online again you need to be able to play a guitar to work out if it’s going to fit you. Such a personal thing.

The reviews for the Artist guitars are pretty bad. They are cheap knockoffs from China built to a price.

I've noticed wild variation in quality between various Epiphone guitars, even within the same model. I definitely would not recommend buying one online in case you get a lemon. You see some Epiphones that sit in shops for years because there's just something not right about them. Best to go to a physical store and try one out in person if possible and find a good one.

  • Theres something hilarios not quite right about a made in china les paul.

    • Harley Davidson makes their bikes in India, Thailand and Brazil these days (on top of a couple of US plants, but they're closing).

Everything is as American as apple pie. In that China grows half the world's apples these days.

      • +2

But make all the Apples at Foxcon?

  • Who doesn't love a little guitar porn 😉

  • st9811beast 2 hours 43 min agonew
for that price id rather go for a MIM strat
    This guitar sounds nothing like a Strat….different pickups for a starter….and it's a hollowbody.

  • Not a les paul guy, but I bought a Gibson LP studio as new for $950 two weeks ago.

    • +1

      That's pretty good price

      • is it s/h?

  • Buying at this price point I am 100% sure I would get a Gibson LP Junior and just focus on the playing.
Get a natural finish (they use better wood). If possible play something you are very familiar with and just listen. Let the wood and the P90 do the talking. They all sound different, so play at least 5-10 before you buy. They really all are different. Sometimes an absolute screamer comes along.
Just listen for the best one.

  • Thinking about buying one to chase off home invaders in Melbourne. I assume this will work as well as a bass guitar.

    • +1

Get one of the Artist TC59 twin humbucker telecasters. At 4.5kg they're perfect for that! Oh, they play beautifully too.

  • Would this be a good starter guitar to play with Rocksmith?

    • maybe try it instore as quality may vary with each wood
