    That’s a pretty watch.

  • Time for a combo with Sutton forest

have this model myself, that dial is amazing.
Bracelet is absolute trash light and flimsy, first thing I did was put it on a leather strap.
here is a bad photo of mine..photos don't do the dial justice

Where did you get the leather strap? I don't mind the bracelet on my SRPE19J, quite comfortable but would like a leather strap for it too.

      • Hi mate, I got it from ebay, not from this seller, but this is the model, here is link:
        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Quick-Release-Leather-Watch-Band…

As ebelow mentioned it looks great on Black strap also, makes it look very dressy. Very versatile watch.

        • I just bought the mocking bird and am looking at getting this strap. Are you able to provide more pics or tell me more about the quality and feel? Cheers!

    • +1

That is a gorgeous watch! If you haven’t purposely avoided black, pair it with a black leather strap - will take it nek level! :)

    • +1

Cute but I'm scared of the exposed hardlex

      • yeah I would much prefer sapphire! Not a fan of Hardlex, I have managed to scratch my crystal at 7 oclock :(

I think you can get an aftermarket sapphire, I'm looking into it. But it is an added cost..

    • +1

Photos really don't do it justice. I saw it an person and realised it's actually too dressy for what I wanted. IMO it's really an evening wear watch.

    • Looks beautiful with the leather!

What size strap does it need, 20mm or 22mm?

      • +1

        20mm :)

        • Thank you!

  • +2

The baby tuna $399!! Cheapest I've seen. I'm undecided wether to get this or save up some more for the green sumo.

    • +1

Sumo has sapphire, 6R35 movement with 70 hour power reserve. And better finishing. The Sumo is not a tonne more, so if you really desire it, save a bit more.

      • +2

Not a whole lot more? It's over double the price lol.

        • +1

Sure, more than double the price. But it's $450. It's not a tonne as I wrote and not totally out of reach. Sumo is more double the watch though IMO.

      • Wow never knew sumo was sapphire, been eyeing off green sumo too…

        • +1

          Only V3 - current model

    • +3

I wanted the green Sumo but the price put me off so I got a blue turtle instead. The turtle is great but it didn't stop me wanting the Sumo and ended up buying it anyway. It looks great in the sun. If you really want the Sumo I'd keep saving rather than buy something else.

I really like the Alpinist as well but I don't have that "must have" feeling the Sumo was giving me. If it was around $400 I'd be tempted but at over $800 its a hard pass.

      • Only Seiko 5 under $400 these days and some Turtles on sale. Unfortunate.

      • +1

I know the feeling re the Alpinist. Hard to swallow at $829 when the older generation sold for ~$400-500 once upon a time.

        • +1

most of us are too cheap in that we want to buy at the lowest point of the market

i personally wouldnt buy any seiko right about now

kinda would get a sarx55/sary55 but the prices are really getting up there and the demand seems to be strong so prices are strong so…

i'd buy a lot of that stuff just for curio sake

        • It's crazy seeing the Seiko 5 line edging closer and closer to that price range with them hovering in the $300 mark now.

      • +2

Been there done that. Buying the cheaper watch never scratches the itch of the one you really want. I've spent too much learning that lesson!

  • +1

    Lordy. I just bought an SNA411 2 weeks ago… must resist…

  • Padi Arnie for $399 too

  • How long does the battery last on this bad boy?

Also, it could be out by +45 to -30 per day. That’s crazy. Could be out by a couple of minutes per week.

    • Power reserve is 40hrs from memory.

Highly unlikely it will be out anywhere near that amount either.

    • +2

It's an automatic watch, which means it's purely mechanical. No battery here, just gears and springs.

It'll probably go about 40hrs after you stop wearing it.

It'll also probably be more accurate than quoted, most of my cheap mechanicals are within about 15s a day. It's far, far worse than a quartz watch, but even 45s a day is still only an error of 0.05%… pretty amazing when you think about it.

If you just want to tell time, buy a solar quartz watch like a Citizen Eco-Drive. If you want to tell the time and find the idea of a tiny precision machine on your wrist appealing, buy an auto.

    • Mechanical watches are rated for pretty much a worst-case scenario. Often they run fast or slow depending on whether you place them crown up or crown down. Unless you’re leaving it sit on a bedside table crown up all day, you’re probably going to get much better than rated accuracy.

My Seiko 5 everyday watch has a much lower-end, less accurate movement. But it’s usually within a minute per week.

  • Hi op, why do you refer to the SRPE15J as the Mockingbird? The colour seems different from the SRPD37J.

    • +1

'The green dial model inspired by a cocktail, the Mockingbird.' - SRPE15J1

    • +1

I think that the SRPE15J and SRPD37J are the same watch with different bands, and the stock photo for SRPE15J is probably just edited differently. Check out this image from Shiels, it looks more like the SRPD37J.

      • Awesome! I've been eyeing the SRPD37J for some time, might go for SRPE15J at that price

  • Damn its beautiful

  • finally been waiting for this to go on sale again!

  • Missed it!

    • Only Mockingbird SRPE15J left in stock, sale ends tonight midnight.

  • Bummer I missed out on the blue moon!

What's the next best price for this, has this company had it at this price before?

If anyone doesn't want theirs, please let me know lol

    • +1

Big bummer! This is the first time I've seen the Blue Moon go on sale on Star Buy and also the cheapest on the market. Seen it go on sale on a few other stores (Bevilles, Myer) but nothing less than $500.

Actually, just found a store selling it for $469 - local stock & 3 year Australia warranty:
      https://starjewellers.com.au/collections/seiko/products/seik…

  • Nice entry level pieces. If only they have sapphire crystal then I would've bitten.
