  • How is it compare with Samsung S6 Lite?

    • S6 lite has s-pen support, and is probably a bit faster, and can probably also do netflix in HD. But this one is more suited for kids, as replacement screens would be cheaper. S6 list would be 2x the price though.

      • Does this not support HD video?

        • Yes

          • @Lief: Lenovo

            PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
            SKU: ZA5T0214AU
            Screen Size: 10.3"
            Display Type: 10.3" IPS
            Display Resolution: FHD 1920 x 1200
            Storage: 64GB
            RAM: 4GB
            Connectivity: Wi-Fi

            1920 X 1200 can't support HD?

Samsung have a higher resolution, pen, faster processor.

            • @superforever: "1920 X 1200 can't support HD?"
Well I would have assumed it would, until I read Tor's comment above.
SO I looked up the processor and the graphics chip supposedly has a max 1600x 720 output!
              https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/mediatek/helio/p22

              EDIT
And a poster below has also echoed Tor's comment.

But is failing to stream in HD the same as failing to play back local video in HD?

              • +3

@sam buster: It doesn't support netflix HD due to CRM. Android has something called Widevine to allow content to be streamed encrypted and protected to the device, before it's displayed. Devices can support different level of protection, L1, L2 and L3. Netflix requires L1 for HD streaming, while the lenovo M10 FHD / plus only supports L3.

                Some more information here; https://www.androidauthority.com/widevine-explained-821935/

If you want to use it to stream content mostly, then I'd recommend a S5e, as it has a better display (amoled) which has much better blacks than the LCD display in both the S6 lite and the M10.

                • @tor: Ah ok. That's a drawback but not necessarily a dealbreaker. Dubious marketing though, as the promotional picture shows the Netflix app, and the product title states FHD.

Do you know if it will playback my own 1080p home videos, many of which I've encoded in x265?

I'm a bit put off by what I just saw on the integrated GPU's spec sheet.

                  • @sam buster: I don't see why it wouldn't play them in full HD, eg with VLC.

                    From your link:

                    Hardware Accelerated Video Capabilities
                    Codec Encode Decode
                    MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) 1080P @ 30 FPS 1080P @ 30 FPS
                    HEVC (H.265) ✘ 1080P @ 30 FPS

                    • @tor: @tor: well-spotted, I must have missed that focusing on my earlier quoted part.
                      Thanks again!

              • @sam buster: Nah it's just a certification thing, i think it's somehting to do with copyright protection.
My crapblet is also limited to SD Netflix, but it can do 1080p60 youtube.

            • @superforever: Multiple reviews mentioned it
              This one shows it

Shipping to Sunshine coast seems to be $6, so shouldn't be too high elsewhere as well.

Reports say it can't play Netflix or prime in HD.
I have this tablet but how to test?

Bought it for $349 for my 3yo to do Khan academy during lockdown, it has a handy kids mode

    • for my 3yo to do Khan academy

      What the actual?

      • It's an educational app for kids. And other uses too

      • +1

My 3yo used a different education app called reading eggs. Now she's 4 (soon to be 5) and can read books independently. As a teacher I wish all children could have similar opportunities before attending school.

Thanks mate. Will give it a go!

    • @daft009:* I wonder if you could kindly tell me if this device supports ARCore, please?
Can you see 'Google Play Services for AR' by GoogleLLC available in the Play Store?
And Lego Hidden Side app, please?

If this device allows my kids to finally play the Lego Hidden Side app it will convince me to buy it.

just checked in the play store and did a search.
        neither appeared

        • Thanks very much for checking that.
          What a shame.

$309 with code PMONTH200 delivered @ Bing Lee via eBay AU.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lenovo-ZA5T0214AU-Tab-M10-Plus/1…

    • Nice work - I think this would be worth posting as a separate deal

    • This one, or waiting for the next version of the Fire HD 10?

      • Fire HD 10 may never come here…

    • "This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing."

  • Ok only for ebay plus members

  • this is coming soon which apparently is very good value
    https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/coming-soon/Lenovo-CT-X636/p/ZZ…

    • How much is it expected to be in Au?
And any ideas on the launch?

Your link says, "Coming Soon" yet it has 22 reviews already!

      • Saw a post recently with a RRP of $599AUD & ETA release in July

        • Thanks, NevilleW, that's the same price I found - twice as much as this!

    • So Chromebook can do Android apps?

      • Most new ones yes. And linux apps.

    • No expandable storage

  • Does it come with a Smart Charging Station for Google Assistant s Ambient Mode? Is it sold separately as I cant find it online.

    • No it doesn't

  • check out some vids on youtube. Looks solid

    • The first vid I watched suggests: it's not quite as good as the Kindle Fire 2019 and about the same as the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2019 in benchmark tests.
This has better memory but considerably worse graphics performance, and quite poor battery life when streaming Youtube. And both front and rear cameras are supposed to be poor.
Something else to consider is that this ships with Android 9, but Lenovo typically don't release OS updates for their tablets. Whereas Samsung have announced the Tab A will get an Android 10 update.

Oh and it can't stream Netflix in HD, as discussed earlier.

  • Not a lot of stock in QLD at Officeworks.
