This phone goes on sale quite often for ~$189

Also Samsung A21 should be out soon, and therefore drop the A20 phone price further

    • Depends if this is locked to a network or not. The deals you refer to are typically locked to Vodafone or Optus

You can unlock it for under $6:

I purchased this Telstra locked phone for $179, and it took me only 10 minutes to unlock.

I guess some people don't want to go through the hassle and just pay the premium for convenience, which also is totally fine

Not that special a deal I'm afraid.

    What they said .. :-( .. !!

    • They said, "Not that special a deal I'm afraid."

  • This price aside, is the phone actually any good? My daughter starts High School next year and so we are looking to get her a phone for the first time.

We don't want to spend a fortune on something that is highly likely to be dropped, thrown in a bag, scratched and generally abused but want something half decent.

    Ideally we would spend $250 - $300 I reckon.

    Cheers

It's an Okay phone. Screen is good, fingerprint reader is snappy and responsive, camera just average. but there are reports that the GPS doesn't work that well and fails to acquire a lock. I don't have this issue on a international Dual Sim model.

The processor is a bit on the slow side. You'll feel a bit of user interface lag when the phone is doing something in the background (e.g updating or installing an app)

      • Ok thanks. I saw on various posts that you can turn off various animations in the developer settings which speeds things up.

For a 12 year old and her first phone then I reckon it may do the job.

        Unless others have other options.

        • It's a good all purpose phone. The GPS issue gets mentioned everytime this phone apperas on OzB however it seems to be pretty much just a tassie tiger, I have never had an issue with mine and GPS either. Also turning off animation transitions in the dev settings does make it snappier.

Ask your daughter. Sometimes imessage could be important for kids when their friends are on it as well.

Compatibility with friends and inclusion is more important than processor speed, specs, etc. IMO

  • Hey just wondering will the A20 have Android 11 and the one UI2.1 cheers
