Where are all the TV deals?

I was so looking forward to getting a 75in TV for my new place but the cheapest ones that I see are around 2295 (2091 something from JB hifi through WestPac rewards).

But seriously where are the 15% ebay coupon deals? Is it because of shortage in supply because of Covid?

P.S. Sorry for the rant :)

i think combination of reduced supply and increased demand due to covid. When i went it to get a TV i was tried to get a better price on a TCL tv and the guy said he only had the display one left, i asked what discount he could give on that and he said none and was very smug about it! Supply and demand I guess I will wait for another 6-12 months but i wont be going back to that GG store.

Same with me.. The HN guy said he could only give me a 80$ discount on the LG 75 inch since he had only 3 of them left.

It sounds strange, but it can also be a lack of demand.

Stores often do these discounts on the proviso that they get sell X amount of units. They need a certain number of sales to make up for the loss of profit caused by the discount. Otherwise they may as well sell half the number at as much profit as they can.

These are sometimes also funded by the manufacturer, where Samsung/Sony give the store a rebate for any TVs sold in a particular time period, so the store makes just as much profit as they normally do, but these are done also under similar conditions.

At the moment luxury purchases like TV upgrades are not essential, so if a store doesn't think they will sell the number of units they require, they won't discount as much. They base these decisions on past performance of sales as well as current market performance.

There are shops offering discounts on their own, but my impression is ebay is now only having special offers for ebay plus members. I've been waiting to buy some appliances but there's no discount in sight for non-plus members :(

    • I am an ebay plus member and I wanted to buy a new Fridge, TV, Washing machine and there are not deals for those too. Heck even I couldnt find a decent deal for Food processors.

      • not specifically, but there is a discount up to 10% (or $200 out of $2000) for plus members at the moment. ebay is promoting June as the plus month or something, so I'd expect no discounts for non-plus members. hopefully they'll prove me wrong

We are pretty early on into the 2020/2021 model range so discounting isn't very frequent at the moment, maybe in a few months time. Also covid would've messed the supply chains up so there may be a lack of supply and incentive to more them. Similar to what bikeshops were going through, why sell a tv on discount now when stock's already low and there might not be many left.

  • Looks like no EOFY sale this year…

  • AUS dollar plummeted when Covid-19 started. AUS dollar has now recovered but suppliers are reluctant to revert back to previous prices?

Check for stock elsewhere and try a price match?

    Videopro has these on offer

Hisense 75" 75S8 Ultra HD Smart TV
    $1,880
TCL 75" 75P715 QUHD Android TV
    $1,880

  • Currently there are supply shortage everywhere. Empty shelves, even display units are sold. I managed to buy this TCL 65" QLED 4K using this deal without membership. Try your luck!

  • What do you think JobKeeper is being spent on? Why would you discount if you had high demand and low supply?

  • TGG have this TCL model 50" P8M https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/tcl-50-inches-p8m-uhd-android….
They say it is discontinued. What compelling reasons would there be to go for the upgrade? Seems to have most that we want in an Android TV.
