Cyberpunk 2077 - System requirements. i7-8700K ??

So I just bought the game for PC and got an email with the recommended specs.

Processor: Intel i7-8700K
Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-I GAMING
Memory: 2 x 16GB of 3000MHz G.Skill Ripjaws V
Graphics: Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti
Storage: Samsung 960 Pro 512GB M.2 SSD
PSU: Corsair SF600 600W

WHat??!

Should I be upgrading my rig? I'm gaming on a 1440p@165hz monitor paired with a 7700k/1080ti combo. If the Witcher 3 was anything to go by it didn't feel like it was CPU intensive at all. I wonder why they are advertising such high CPU requirements.

Depends on what the settings these recommended specs are. Does it say?

    • Nope but as others have pointed out, it might be for 4K although not sure if that's at 60hz or 30hz

that's recommended, not minimum I would say.. you're probably safe with your rig, just don't expect to play at full ultra specs, although, your monitor is 1080p right?

    • Yeah I hope so. I built my rig in 2017 hoping it would last me 5 years. I've got a 1440p monitor.

      • 5 years is a stretch.. you might have to upgrade components in the meantime.

        • Yeah I thought about this though the 7700k doesn't leave me much of a nice upgrade path as I'd need to change out the entire mobo to get any CPU upgrade at all.

I didn't think any specs for Cyberpunk were published yet.

According to this site: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/news/cyberpunk-2077-updated-r…, those specs you posted were of the machine used in an E3 demo in 2018, in 4K.

    • Fair enough. Those guys estimate it to be an Intel i5 9600K or Ryzen 5 3600X with Nvidia RTX 2060 Super (Raytracing) or AMD RX 5700XT. That's even higher than the E3 demo in 4k!

Emails are 100% accurate, everyone knows this. I would get rid of your current rig asap, if the game detects you were running inferior hardware it will refuse to run.

  • the witcher 3 release date:
    19 May 2015

Back then 4 core CPU's was the best there was at least in intels core i5/i7 line up (AMD was irrelevant then)

Now days 6 core CPU's are the norm since AMD's Ryzen changed things quite a bit.

Im sure you will be able to run it but im not sure how well, Can't really tell till the games release or some sort of benchmarks with the game.

    • Yeah that's true. Though surely I'm not the only one still living in the quadcore-verse who will be buying this game. Will just have to wait for benchmarks I guess.

  • hmmm, where did you buy cyberpunk 2077? did you have a time machine?

    • You are trying to be snarky but even if you purchase something today that is to be delivered a few months later - it is still a purchase.

        technically it's called pre-ordered.

kinda purchase but you haven't received the item.

and they haven't even release the recommended spec yet for cyberpunk. Hence my comment.

        • Pre-order is a marketing term. From the law point of view, it is a purchase.

Plenty of things are purchased with delivery expected at later time. Even pizza. All purchases.

  • Really depends if you're someone that likes turning everything up to Ultra, a lot of those settings really aren't worth the performance hit at all

1080ti should easily be enough for 1440p, just don't expect 100+ frame rate

    • Sadly I am one of those people haha! I'm not even getting 100+ fps on TW3 either. I'm hovering around 80-90 FPS with Ultra which I'm actually quite happy with.

  • Those recommended specs are going will be 3+ year old tech when the game is released. Up until a month ago I was still playing the Witcher 3 (1440p on medium) on a FX8350 cpu and R290x gpu.

You do know the game is releasing in sept 2020 right?

    • What's sad is that the 2080 super is almost the exact same price the 1080ti was 3 years ago with only 5% better performance.

      • +1

Yeah so sad! I'm so glad I got my 1080ti for $900 3 years ago! It's holding up value like Apple products lol

        • +1

I'm in a similar situation, paid $499 for a 980ti, and its equivalent is now $450

  • Can you please link where you bought it? I would like to buy it as well.

  • It's fairly common for these key places to sell illegal keys months before a new franchise releases officially. Best of luck.

    • I mean I wouldn't buy Windows/Office keys but for games, I've been using cdkeys for years without any dramas. I purchased The Witcher 3 through them too as a GoG key and the process was silky smooth.

Would be interested to see where the illegal aspects roll in? I understand the dodgy practices people use with bulk enterprise keys for Windows 10 etc but for games? What am I missing here?

      • Sometimes the devs will ban keys from them because they don't obtain them via ethical means. Yours might be perfectly fine but I wouldn't be taking the risk.
