same price with JB hifi. OW can price match

    • I will add that Thanks

      • Wouldn't it be better to get 7% cashback from Amazon via CashRewards than a 5% price match from Office Works?

        • +1

Depends if you prefer immediate 5% savings or getting 7% back 3 months later and only if you’ve accumulated the minimum withdrawal amount at CR/SB (not to mention potential risk of not tracking), pretty obvious choice if you ask me

          • @parcus: isnt it in fact 6.3% that is 7% withouth GST ?

          • @parcus: True, I'll take the 7% via CR. Happy to wait.

        • Works out to be approx the same because the 7% is taken off the price after tax with cashback. Considering you wait 3 months to get it the price match is worth it.

Hasn’t this been 129 for like a week now ?

    • Only dropped to $129 from $159 in the last hour or so, hasn't even tracked on CCC yet.

      • Ahh 159$, my bad :)

      • I have been waiting for this to drop for a while now so have been checking it now and again.

        • +1

it was 114.50 but u had to be a pre-order day 1 customer.

wont even get back to that level, so 129 is amazing for this little unit!

          • @sachz: I missed the pre-order but have been waiting for a price drop so got 1 today before I posted.
            Also about $8 Cashback.

    • -1

you not post as a bargain here?

      Broden, is that you?

      • why the neg? BL1tzkre1g knew there was a bargain to be had for a week, but didn't post. just saying!

Add Ring Video Doorbell 2, both for $303.73

    • How? My side is $312.

      • +1
        • I bought them but it was $312. It said last one for Ring Video Doorbell 2.

      • Yes, you are right. $8 is my credits.

    • is the Ring door view cam any good? how does it compare to ring doorbell 2?

  • this can't play youtubes right ?

    • It can via the web browser, but it's pretty clunky

    • +1

      It's made for primes.

  • +3

The physical camera cover is a nice feature.

  • Tried calling Bunnings. They don’t beat products that they have to specially order. Argh!

    • +1

I call BS. Have done it twice now. Last one was for DJI Mavic Air. Does not mention that exclusion in their policy either. Try calling a different store.

      • I did it for the echo 2 $50 deal, even though it was able to order, they came back 3 weeks after I paid for 2 and said they don't stock it any more. Waste of time, just go to officeworks.

      • Their price beat policy says they'll beat price on any stocked item in this case special orders is not stocked and therefore excluded

    • It show's as $129 on their website?

      • It was $159 yesterday.

  • How does this compare with the google nest?

  • Are people choosing Nest Hub over the Echo Show 8? Whomever wants one of these things must have already bought in the morning with Google.

    • +1

Advantage of this is you can play Audible and Prime Video as almost everyone nowadays have prime membership. If google allow these services in Nest Hub I will prefer google one over this

    • Echo show is the way to go. Unless you wish to be stuck in the google ecosystem. Netflix Apple TV and more

      • +3

Echo show is the way to go

        Why?

Unless you wish to be stuck in the google ecosystem

So using Alexa does not make you stuck in Amazon ecosystem?

        Netflix Apple TV and more

        Uhmmm .. what!?

        • -4

I went from echo to google home to echo show 5 to google hub max back to echo show 5 upgrade to echo show 8.

I’m not going to explain details so just buy it and try it out and if you don’t like it sell it or return it

          • +20

@sunnyc: You must be fun during interview :D

Q: Why we should hire you?

A: I'm not going to explain details so just hire me and if you don't like me you can fire me. Also Netflix Apple TV and more!

            • -7

@Indomietable: I don’t explain myself in interviews. People just refer me. When I hire people, it’s based on their work not their interview

            • -2

@Indomietable: I was out and about shopping so I had to make it short and I can’t keep repeating why google hub is worse and why I like the echo.

        • +1

I kind of understand what sunny is saying. Google is a direct competitor to Apple so will never have anything work with homekit. Amazon will work in Apple's ecosystem. With regards to netflix, I didn't know that Nest hub wont work with Netflix.

          • @fuzor: I've been Apple all my life, and recently welcomed Alexa. I now have 4 Echos. Just bought the 8, so a 5th ;)

    • I really can't decide between hub and this one. This one has camera but the hub doesn't have one. This one works as ZigBee hub (I heard) and the hub doesn't . But with Echo can't use Google duo for video call so I'm not sure what the camera would be for on Echo.

But then I have ring video door bell and stick up cam which is compatible with Echo

      • +1

Thats what they kind of want. Suck up services like ring or youtube so you have to choose them. Just for your info none of these are hubs for zigbee. You really get what you pay for. Only the most expensive 2nd gen show gets the hub but thats not something thats in the $100.00 range.

    • Alexa understands my voice better than Google. Google gives better answers to questions, doesn't say "I don't know how to help you with that right now" as often as Alexa.

  • anyone know if the 5 is better to use as a clock in the living room?

    • I think from memory that the 5 has the big clock.

    • yep, I use the show 5 mainly as a clock for my desk. It's really good. The size is perfect, it has a large clock display (don't think the show 8 has this yet) and there are a variety of customisable clock options.

edit: seems like echo show 8 has a large clock now in new update.

      • Source?

        • +5

An updated clock design that will display the time, weather, and date in larger digits is now available.

the last dot point on the desktop website of the Echo Show 8 listing

          • @skido: You're a legend! Thank you so much!

          • @skido: They may say that, but the clock is still tiny on mine with what is apparently the most recent software update. It uses about 1/20th of the screen area.

This customer review gives you an idea with the attached images.

            • @jwh: the new software update supposedly has this new larger clock look. should be streamlined across all echo show 8 devices with the latest software update, perhaps try tweaking the settings around

              • @skido: I'll have to give it some time then, as some posts from that thread are from only a few hours ago saying they got the update.

To be honest, after seeing that link I was expecting something better, more akin to what is available with the Show 5 clock faces.

  • +1

brilliant. was waiting for this exact price drop.

already have a day-1 black one, and wanted a 2nd one.

129 is a great price, even tho i paid 114.50 (50% off) for day 1.

    devices are absolutely the bees-knees!

  • +2

Better to make the price $98 to match google

    • Yer I wish

  • +2

I have the Show 5, Show 8 and Show 10 and imho the Show 5 is a bit small and the microphone isnt great. The Show 10 is awesome but a bit overpriced compared to the rest of the range.

The Show 8 is the best bang for your buck for anyone not sure what to go for.

  • Can you install google photos on it?

  • Does this have a Chrome web browser app available for it?

    • No that would be it's direct competitor, but it has Silk browser (from Amazon) and Firefox.

      • Never heard of Silk browser and I'm going to promptly forget it exists.

  • +1

I got this when it came out but haven't been impressed with Alexa. Half the time she doesn't understand, and sometimes just ignores me completely. She's getting worse… (cue wife jokes) but seriously, Google assistant seems to be much better

  • Man what happened to the 20% off home devices deal? I can see the offer but adding smart home devices in the list doesn't take off 20%. With 20% off the eufy 2 4cam is near all time low price and I want it…

  • Echo Show down to $249
