Note this is a vinyl heat pressed image. Not good for large prints as they can crack when washed.
As an apparel decorator that uses heat transfer vinyl, if you see cracking vinyl, it is usually because the quality of vinyl used was poor, the vinyl was incorrectly applied, or the item was incorrectly laundered by the end user. I've never had vinyl crack on me, but then I use the high-end stuff.

Vinyl prints are a relic of the past, nobody uses them anymore.
Not true. "Less" people use them perhaps, but they are still the best option in some situations, and are more durable than screen printing in my experience.
