Get 10% to 30% Extra Store Credit When You Trade in 1 to 3 Games @ EB Games

200

Got an email from EB games with the game trade deal offer.

Trade 1 game = 10% extra credit
Trade 2 games = 20% extra credit
Trade 3+ games = 30% extra credit

All above plus EB world level bonus, which based on a previous post is:

Level 2 Bonus 10%
Level 3 Bonus 15%
Level 4 Bonus 20%
Level 5 Bonus 25%

And yes, 30% + 20% for a dollar game is chump change, but hey, that's still 30% + 20% more than if you did it last week!

  • Problem with this is even if they offer market value, you then have to buy games from EB which is expensive

Would be interested to see what they offer for BOTW, Oddysey, MK8 etc

    • +1

      Less than you'd get elsewhere

    • +9

EB will usually price match other stores. I've never paid their full RRP.

      • this is true. pays to ask. and asking is free.

      • Still more expensive than Gumtree, Games that are often $62-64 instores are $50 on Gummy

    • +4

people always complain about prices for EB new games yet i've never not had them price match JB, big w or wherever has it cheapest

tempted to trade in all my old ps4 games i don't play or now have digital versions from ps+

      • +3

My local refused price matching when I've asked. They didn't even ask who it was with (I've heard people say it needs to be in the same shopping complex)

I couldn't find an official EB statement saying they'll price match either so it might be up to the manager's discretion

  • Accept Xbox 360 games??

    • +1

      Not any more, only consoles

  • +1

Still doesn't match competitors. CEX pays much better. For example I found out Modern Warfare (2019) was worth just under $30 credit and CEX are paying almost $40 in cash! https://au.webuy.com/product-detail?id=5030917286681&categor…

    • I agree in the most part, but then CeX pricing of pre owned is higher as a result and also as they are exclusively second hand they may not have what you’re looking for

      • True but did you see the cash amount? It's sad when a cash payout is higher than a competitors store credit value.

        • +1

Yeah, I was just editing because I noticed it was a cash trade, CeXs trade credit prices are nearly always better than EB, the cash price is a great find but there aren’t too many like that

          • @darthhasbro: Ah, fair enough thank you! I'm in two minds considering I still have to pay off my Last of Us 2 preorder at the end of the week.

  • +1

Worth mentioning that you can only trade XBox One, PS4, 3DS and Switch games now.

  • Thought Level 4 is highest. How many carrots required to get invitation of Level5?

    • +4

Not carrot based, criteria is very secret, apparently part of it is $$$ spend across all categories

    • +13

If you managed to somehow reach level 5 I'd assume by then you'd have lost all possible savings and credibility to EB Games

  • +1

I traded in a stack of games this morning, with a 20% level 4 card.

Only thing I remember of note,

Jedi Fallen Order got 24 or so after the 50%
    Modern Warfare was about 44
Mario Odyssey was 44 as well

Everything else was just random stuff I had lying around

    • +2

      Prices at CEX are interesting.

      Jedi Fallen Order PS4 - $24 cash/$32 voucher
      Modern Warfare PS4 - $39 cash/$50 voucher
      Mario Odyssey - $23 cash/$37 voucher

I really enjoy their transparency with the prices on the website too. See my other comment below.

        CEX > EB

      • +2

Is it just me or the CEX is so freaking awesome.
So cool how you can put in any game and see the buy, cash and credit price straight away.
        So awesome.

        • Amen to that, I know exactly what to expect if I trade games there without having to go in store and then say no thanks

  • So, I used to be really positive about these deals, but had a dodgy occurrence with EB Games a while back that made me realise the system is probably rigged in their favour. I'm not looking for anyone to scream 'captain obvious' at me, more just a cautionary tale for these deals.

The TL;DR is I believe "20%" extra credit means nothing when they regularly adjust prices and give no register on what the trade in value was previously. If a supermarket offers a 20% discount, you know what the RRP is. But here we have no clue what the Recommended Trade-in Price is.

Basically I went to trade in games after an E3 period to get bonus credit. Then they ended up informing me that I misread the e-mail. What had happened is they'd advertised 50% bonus credit to me twice in two e-mails, in identical ways. However one e-mail meant INCLUDING my 20% Level 4 bonus, the other one (the first one) meant ON TOP OF my level 4 20% bonus. It took a lot of arguments from me and some mentions of going to ACCC etc to get them to decide to agree with me (more likely shut me up). So then they had to process the trade ins, but back-date the values to what it was at the time. So it went through the system at the prices from the day I had originally tried to trade in the games, but the receipt reflected the price difference on TODAY'S value. So what it meant is rather than seeing things like an extra 20% bonus, I just saw like a 5-10% bonus. i.e. their system's lack of flexibility made it pretty clear to me that they reduce the value of trade-ins around that time so the % extra offers don't see them out of that much more money.

I considered very seriously taking this to ACCC, but life got busy, and I'd already spent so much effort on chasing them for my bonus I just couldn't be bothered anymore. The receipt is now at the bottom of a drawer somewhere, I could never decide to throw it out. But it was a real eye opener to me and really put me off trading with them.

It's hard to make claims about percentage differences when the base price of the commodity is something you set and don't show anyone.

  • Damn I didnt know there's a level 5, I've been on level 3 for so long and I thought level 4 was the highest

    • +1

Don't sweat it mate, unless you trade your soul and buy a ridiculous amount of things from them they won't even look your way. Level 5 is a 'secret' entitlement given to you at the discretion of EB Games themselves…no amount of points can get you there.

    • +1

Level 5 is by invitation only

      • +1

but what does it get you?
