Wusthof Classic Essential 6-Piece Block Set $299.99 @ Costco Online (Membership Required)

640

With all the recent deals on knives I became a little intrigued and wanted to get a good knife for myself. I settled on the Wusthof Classic chefs knife and was about to bite the bullet when I came across this deal for a whole set. The cheapest I could find the set elsewhere is $420. The chefs knife by itself is worth around $170, while the other knives might not be for everyone it seems like a good deal.

The set includes a 9cm Paring Knife, 12cm Utility knife, 20cm Bread Knife, 20cm Cooks Knife, 23cm Honing Steel and 5-slot block. The knives made from a single piece of tempered high-carbon stainless steel for exceptional strength and durability.

  • The block has space for kitchen scissors.

Useless bit of information, but I once accidentally dropped one of these knives into a 180c deep fryer and when it was emptied 4 hours later, it was as good as new. I still have my set I bought 21 years ago. The quality of these cannot be over stated.

    • I mean, yeah of course it was as good as new? It's steel and wood, both can survive heat of 800c+

Are there any small spots of rust, even if you don't put it in the dishwasher, etc.?

  • It is missing scissors than last deal but 69$ cheaper now.

Looks like the scissors can be had for $40-$50 so good deal

  • I still have a set of Wusthof Classics from 6 or 7 years ago that I haven't sharpened once and they still hold their edge very well.
The steel hasn't tarnished at all and doesn't develop many scratches either from scrubbing, compared to a lot of other cheaper knife sets I've had.

When brand-new though, these are incredibly sharp knives.

These are better quality than Global IMo. I’ve used both and my Wusthof is much nicer in the hand and stays sharp longer.

I have these but be careful if using the Wusthof knife sharpener (the one you drag the knife through), took waaaaaaaay too much metal off the knife and doesn’t look right at all now

    These knives are really good.

I owned baccarat for a few years.

Upgraded to global due to being sucked in by MasterChef product placement. Were fantastic compared to baccarat, required sharpening every few weeks though.

Upgraded to Shun sora after a friend's suggestion.
Even better than the globals. Held edge for daily use for a month. Entry level knives but made me realise how good the top end of knives actually are even compared to high end globals.

Bought the wusthof classic 3 set.
Theyre fantastic. Heavy, much heavier than the Asian knives but that's so much better for cooking large meals, or cutting large slabs of meat from the butchers . Also the edge holds longer than the shun.

I'd highly recommend these . But maybe even just get the 3 set. I don't think you need this many, but I've never bought more than 3 set of knives.

Got a set, thank you for the post. The Scanpan block set I bought when I first got a job and have been using is beyond sad these days.

How is wushtof compared to global? Any knife experts here could comment?

    • They're much heavier. I like this, I find Globals feel far too light in the hand, where the Wusthof feels more balanced and comfortable for chopping lots of stuff. I've had this exact set for about a decade and use it every day, they're fantastic. Wusthof > Global any day.

  • Looked around for these after seeing Gordon Ramsay use them a few times, gotta be great quality if a Michelin star chef uses them!

  • Amazon got the 12-piece set for $309. Not sure if they use the same material tho.
