    • no worries!

Is this a 64 bit OS ? Need a cheap phone to play Pokemon Go as my current one (Samsung S5) will not be compatible by August.

      • thank you !

        • no worries!

          FYI does not support AR.

          • @dasher86: Ah cool, I don't use that anyway.

@nekov: other than that is a great phone for pokemon go.
I ran with it for 12 months before upgrading to Huawei P30.
Battery life was next to none for Go, easily got through a full day of use with battery to spare.

    • Looks like no longer supporting 32bit phones already. They've done it early

  • Looks like a solid budget phone with massive 5000mAh battery but a poor camera. See Tech radar review:
    https://www.techradar.com/reviews/zenfone-max-pro-m1

No NFC though, so take note if that is something you need.

    • Yeah but you can install the pixel camera app to enhance the quality of photos.

      • Google camera port does not always guarantee great results. Do you have any experience with Google camera on this phone? Please share if you do.

Google camera works good on it. Also Open Camera works really well.
I've got 6GB model but I don;t think it matters.

  • How does this compare to say a samsung A20

  • Will both SIM work on 4G simultaneously?

  • Can be upgraded to Android 10?

    Thanks

    • Keen to know too

    • Ive been trying to find this out too….

best i can find is this..

Android 8.1 (Oreo), upgradable to Android 9.0 (Pie)
      from gsmarena….

A bit of discussion on XDA developers forum around 10 Beta's - but all with issues.

    • this model was released in 2018 so its safe to assume there won't be anymore official updates

      • +1

I've got 6GB 64GB model and it gets updates on a regular basis.

        • Are you getting android 10?

      • +1

@ChaLuo assumptions are seldom helpful kind sir, Asus certainly are releasing official updates as of 16 days ago.

See link below, published 1st June 2020 , under the firmware section.

        https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone-Max-Pro-M1/HelpDesk_Downl…

        • mate.. the android 10 update (Version WW-17.2017.2004.424) is a developer build. the latest update dated 1st June 2020 (Version WW-16.2017.2005.082) was android 9.

its no secret that most oem's incl asus only provide major updates for 2 yrs only. you can expect updates for this model to continue for another month or so.

          • @ChaLuo: There's still quite a good fan base on this phone. Developers aren't going to stop custom rom support anytime soon imo

        • Agreed.. I actually considered buying this phone even before seeing this post. Did some reading on XDA on custom ROM support. The most popular/stable seems to be havoc but still plagued by issues that depending on whether you intend to use this as daily driver, may be critical to you.

You can still stick to stock and remain on android 9. Which may not be too bad for the price on offer. Even then, depending on how critical security updates are to you, these also will be discontinued soon.

  • Will both SIM work on 4G simultaneously?

  • Which is better? this phone or Redmi note 9 pro? Thanks

    • Redmi note 9 pro is obviously more expensive ($300+) and better in terms of performance and camera quality.

        thanks mate

As @fchis said Redmi note 9 is a much newer / higher end model.

This Zenfone Max was a competitor to the Redmi note 5

  • thank you!
