Purchased "Perfectly Working" Used phone on eBay, Arrived with Defective Internal Speaker. Options?

Purchased "Perfectly Working" Second hand phone on ebay. Arrived just as described and was impressed until I realised one of the speakers is very distorted, like its damaged or possibly been in water. I have read there can be an ongoing issue with Xperia phones with possibly a software/firmware issue or speakers failing prematurely in devices and the seller may have not known.

I really need the phone, it was not bought as a spare so I am wondering what would the options be? I know I could just do an item not as described but then wouldn't have a phone that works..
I chose this phone compared to the cheaper, broken devices. Speaker may be able to be replaced but I know it can be easy to damage other things when opening some of these phones if I did it myself and not worth paying for it.

Wonder if there is an option for a partial refund, for the cost of the replacement speaker possibly? But then I know it can be frowned upon because it can be a way used to extort refunds by telling lies.

I could try and record a video as proof.

Is this kind of thing expected in a second hand "perfectly working" used phone?

You can ask for a partial refund, or eBay will just completely refund you. Ebay Customer protection is pretty good and lenient. Bonus if you purchased on a credit card so you can do a charge back as last resort.

Nope, eBay is just working with the seller against you

    • haha they are probably chatting about their game plan right now!

  • You should be able to win a SNAD with not problems. The seller also have to provide a return label.

  • Open and INAD (Item Not As Described) case with eBay and take it from there. eBay always tend to side with buyers.

  • Have you discussed it with the seller? Before you open a not as described, check the listing again and double check it didn’t mention it somewhere. Then go through the return process with the seller.

If you paid with paypal they should cover returning it for a refund.

    • It had very little information but mentioned the light scratches. It will be hard to return it because I do need the phone, fully working apart from that. It was to replace a fully defective phone. It was a good price, but that was taking into account everything was fully working and not in perfect condition. I did ask the seller, and I actually think this particular problem may have not even been noticed by them, I am picky when it comes to sound and I fully tested everything and noticed one speaker has an issue. I know I could return, but as I need the phone and no phone stores nearby its hard. Don't really want to screw the seller over as they have likely done nothing wrong, just minor issue *minor if you dont play music, and possibly a little difficult but possibly to repair if its a hardware fault.

  • Managed to fix it by opening screen, something was muffling the speakers. Now only problem is nfc wont work!
