Going into Solo Self-Isolation Tips & Advice

Hey fellow Ozbargainers,

I will be arriving from Melbourne to Perth tomorrow and will be required to self-isolate for 14 days.

I will be staying by myself alone.

Any tips or advice how to survive the 14 days with no human contact without having detrimental mental health effects.

Also any tips on what to do during those 2 weeks

Thanks

  • how about spending $100 for a PCR test? you'd only need a referral from GP. wear mask to GP and the drive-through collection centre.

results will be out in 24-48 hours.

    • Unfortunately as far as I'm aware, even if test negative, interstate arrivals still have to self-isolate for 14 days :(

      • oh is it the mandatory quarantine for 14 days?

    • won't arrive on time 😂

There are some free print and play games so they won't take too much of your luggage room and should provide you a few hours of entertainment. I can provide a few recommendations.

Maybe online courses and periodic video chats.

People come to this website for advise not advice!

    • advise is the verb

Guess my exclamation mark wasn't enough for you folks to pick up that I was joking. Was trying to make a point of how many people get it wrong here.

    Just play with yourself.

  • Where will you be staying? If it's in a hotel or somewhere else where there's not much to do then it will be pretty boring, if you're staying at your own home then it's only 14 days and you'll be fine.

    • it says directions to be provided on arrival so I weirdly enough won't know until I land

Do some of those free online courses. Heaps get posted here.

If you go into this believing it’s a simple challenge that will make you a more resilient person you will be fine, it’s only 14 days.

Exercise, read, listen to podcasts/music, take some free coursera courses, do some sudoku or crossword puzzles etc., eat healthy (to the best of your ability), keep a good sleep regime, if your’e a guy and clean shaven perhaps grow a beard for fun but look after your personal hygiene despite not socializing. Skype/Zoom etc. with your friends and or family. If you have to - play vidya and catch up/rewatch any tv series you like and movies you like.

Get sun if you have a balcony/window in the correct location but take Vitamin D with you though as 14 days without sun can cause Vitamin D deficiency especially if you’re genetically prone. I take 4000iu a day but was diagnosed with a deficiency despite working outdoors. Vitamin D is important for mental health.

AVOID social media and the cult of woe is me, avoid alcohol, avoid sleeping in.
