Looking for City SUV around $10 - $15k

A bit of background.
Owned 1999 Honda CRV bought 10 years ago at 63k km , still running modestly fine at 105k km, but sadly due to Takata recall, have to let it go soon.
So, currently hunting for similar reliable SUV. Mainly use the car for groceries shopping and occasional trip every now and then . *which explain the low usage of Km.

Been looking at Honda CRV , Mazda CX5 , Mitsubishi Outlander, Kia Sportage at carsales.

Any good suggestions from ozbargain users ?

  • I am pretty newbie in automotive world ^^

  • Rav4 and Cx-5

  • get any of those at best price you can find

  • CRV, CX5, Sportage, IX35, Rav4, pathfinder. All very good cars.

Pathfinder is hardly a ‘city’ SUV. It’s huge.

Might wanna replace that with “x-trail”

        • IMO even CX5, xtrail and RAV4 etc are oversized for the ‘city suv’ class. It really depends what size the OP wants.

They can replace the airbag now. Contact Honda

  • So are they buying it off of you or something? How much are they offering?

  • If only this thread was posted here at some time in the past…

Usual candidates, aim for Japanese or Korean, avoid European… yadda yadda…

And wtf about the Takata airbag? Is it one of the vehicles they just CBF sourcing a new airbag for? I think Toyota had a buy back offered on some models they just can’t get airbags made for…

  • The choices are obviously plentiful, but let me warn you about buying Subaru if you want to keep the car for a while. The drive train is good, but the engine just pure shit design with never-ending issues.

  • Was your old car purchased back by the manufacturer?

  • Outlander

  • all the models you've listed are pretty good choices just make sure you get max airbags;

you can check by searching for models with rear curtain airbags on http://www.howsafeisyourcar.com.au/how-safe-is-my-car/

    I'd also encourage you to
    1. consider wagons like 4GEN outback, 5GEN liberty wagon, Mazda 6, hyundai i30 wagon
    2. even consider including cars in the 5-8k range that are safe, reliable and well maintained. Then it might be worthwhile to only pay 3rd party fire and theft insurance, saving you $400-500/year for not having comprehensive. Then you can spend that money on maintenance, repairs, or add-ons.
