I think this is going to be the normal price. It's $50 on steam too.

Star Wars: Squadrons is a fully self-contained experience from day one, where you earn rewards through play

    Suuuuuuuuuuuure you do.

    • Let me guess, you can also pay for them with micro transactions?

      • -6

Yep, and they'll make it super difficult to earn the rewards.

        • No, you're just spreading false information.

          • -4

@Vinodra: BF2 had an insanely slow unlock system on release. That's how the whole meme about "A sense of pride and accomplishments" came about.
            https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBattlefront/comments/7cff0b…

They did it so you'd buy credits with real money.

            • +4

@NatoTomato: Yes, but they fixed BF2 and have stated there are no microtransactions in this new game, there was also no microtransactions in EA's previous Star Wars game Jedi Fallen Order.

So you are spreading false information based on something from years ago. Why answer someones question when you don't actually know the answer?

The gaming industry is a little more complex than "EA bad lol". You are just being a stereotypical angry gamer / reddit user.

DAE remember the days when Star Wars was something to look forward to? I miss that.

It's been a good two and a half years since TLJ and I've basically accepted I will never be able to love the series anywhere near as much anymore. God damn this sequel trilogy bullshit.

      • I'm watching The Clone Wars for the first time and it's great, kinda rekindled my Star Wars interest for the first time in ages.

        • The clone wars is awesome. Rebels starts off a bit average but builds to be pretty good.

Tried to watch rise of Skywalker again last night. Turned it off after 15 mins. The characters just sounded like kids at high school. Boring.

And now it's just another Disney franchise being milked dry.

The Mandalorian Season 1 was pretty good.

    "Remember.. No preorders."

    • +1

      Why is that

      • EA. Not sure if they learnt their lesson after their SWBF2 scandal.

      • +1

There's some pretty convincing arguments to not pre-order any product, predominantly the risks associated with being an early adopter for said product.

Because "games as a service" is such a prevalent concept now, especially for multiplayer games and even more so for EA multiplayer games, there's a possibility that you'll be paying a premium for an inferior product.

As we move more and more towards digital content as well, the supply isn't as finite as it would have been throughout, say, the 5th and 6th generation consoles where face to face retail was the way you bought your games, so the argument for doing so is again underscored, with the only real counterargument being cosmetic and in-game items and incentives.

This reddit post does a better job of articulating than I can. Hope it helps to give perspective.

  • The question is will this get a free upgrade to next gen or will ea make you buy a new version.

    • +1

EA have been very good regarding this. Considering this is releasing in the same window as FIFA & Madden (which are receiving free upgrades) its fair to say this might too..

    • It'll be backwards compatible so there's no need for a new version.

      • A new version will run at a higher framerate on more powerful consoles, I believe Xbox stated that they can double framerates on certain backwards compatible titles but im not sure about Sony's backwards compatibility.

In any case, it should be a free upgrade considering other EA games such as Fifa are getting free upgrades.

  • Interesting pivot from Fallen Order. Rather than falling, you'll be flying, and, historically, every space battle in Star Wars has been quite disorderly.

    5vs5? Is this a retro title…?

  • +1

Fallen Order is $35 on Amazon if anyone is interested in playing that before Squadron:

  • it's been so long since we had a decent x-wing vs tie fighter game.
