    Never knew Monterey made so many models. Might give my two cents - I'm a hobbyist guitarist and decided to learn guitar last year, bought the Monterey ma-15n of jbhifi.

    A year and so since then, I've moved on to a better guitar (Alvarez) but still plays this as a back up/practice guitar (learning how to change string, adjusting the truss rod, etc). And at times i'd even preferred this to the Alvarez (which cost 3 times as much).

    Seems like a good price for some of them, it's an ok build, light weight (i think some of them are laminated and not solid top) but i'd buy it again for the price and what I've got.

    What i would do is to change the string ASAP (I'm using Ernie Ball) and it'll last you a while.

      RRPs are not inflated. To double check you can goto www.cmi.com.au who are the suppliers and you can check the RRPs on their website to confirm.

    With all due respect to OP, these guitars are not worth the money. I bought a strat copy from JB some years ago. The finish wasn't great. The frets stuck out the sides. Sound was okay for a beginner, but you wouldn't expect much at that price point.

    A friend bout an acoustic. Same deal with the neck.

    Spend a tiny bit more and get something from Artist. Great value for money.

    Spend a little more than that and get an Epiphone.

    I currently have an old Valencia TC105 nylon acoustic that I just muck around on.

    Is any able to comment on whether either of these would a good replacement.
