Good deal, among the cheapest it has been.
Cheapest was about $1300 but that was pre covid.

Solid machine, check out Youtube channel w2best for a lot of info

Thermals aren't amazing, however it's a trade off for the size and weight of the machine to be honest.
If gaming on a PC this thin just use a cooling pad! Best $25 investment.

      • To be expected right for a 1.6kg PC? Definitely get a cooling pad for any gaming laptop

You have to undervolt - on any recent intel machine pretty much, especially i7
Once you get over those initial setup issues, you've got a pretty great performer in a small form

  • Ah, I bought following for 1,499 from Dell outlet on last Thursday,
    https://www.dell.com/en-au/outlet/refurbished-latitude-13-53…

  • I think compared to the Dell G5 15 5505 for close to the same money with the new Ryzen 4600H and 5600M, I'd go with the G5.

      Depends on your use case.
I was tempted to go down that route, however the weight, size, chaises quality & battery life make this a far better option for those that have to stray from the plug a lot I think.

This Inspiron also has a Thunderbolt port if you want to dock it.

        • Yep, I use mine successfully with a Dell WD19 dock (180w PSU) purchased from eBay.

  • 1500 and not even 1660 ti. sorry pass.

    • +1

The trade off is that this is a 1.6 kg machine.

Very good price. I paid more but got it off the Dell website with 4 year premium warranty and accident cover. Dell were also pretty much the only brand where I could transfer my exact warranty if I move abroad - a major factor for me as an international student. At the time of purchase Dell were doing significant discount on warranty for me. I think if you are interested in custom warranty then you can message Dell on eBay and they will sort it out for you, but I think you must do it before purchase.

A major plus of this laptop is that it only weighs somewhere around 1.6 kg, making it more nimble than others with comparable spec and price (for instance Dell G series or other brands).

I upgraded to my own 32 GB ram and 1 TB SSD. I think the RAM in particular would be a bottleneck on this deal, I am almost always using over 8 GB and sometimes over 16 GB.

A 32 GB kit comes in under $200 I think. Maybe even less.

Hi is it easy to upgrade the ram and ssd?

      • +1

Yeah pretty straight forward and Dell have complete service manuals on their website detailing it step by step. It won't affect warranty either (unless you do something completely wrong).

Full disclosure - just remembered that I had to get the motherboard replaced after 6 months as it stopped charging. I had worse experiences with my old Lenovo however, it repeatedly died and had multiple motherboard replacements, and they replaced it eventually with the new model which also kept having the same issues. Lenovo then fully refunded including warranty and I bought this Dell. Luckily I had purchased upgraded warranty with Lenovo and I did the same by purchasing the max warranty for this Dell and seems like it has paid for itself already.

Nice. I just bought the Vostro model of this the other day with 16GB for 1,898.99 and 15% cashback with cash rewards. Vostro is basically the Inspiron internals with a more solid chasis(Auminium vs Magnesium Alloy) so Vostro ends up being slightly heavier. Vostro is also ready to ship which was an important factor for me - https://www.dell.com/en-au/work/shop/business-laptops-ultrab…
Used 28deg Card so hopefully I'm able to claim price protection on it

    • +2

Yep Vostro I think is about 200 g heavier, but can be better value. Although I am not sure if all the same warranty options are available and if the warranty is of the same value (not important for some).

      • +1

Yep, easier upgrade to 32GB as well since it comes with the 1 x 16gb. Will also fill the second M2 slot with another 1TB, so should be a nice system hopefully!

    • I also bought a Vostro on my 28 Degree card as well, but what's the chance that it will drop below 40% within a year? I think my model (7500) is new so it's not yet ready to ship, hopefully won't take too long.

      https://www.dell.com/en-au/work/shop/business-laptops-ultrab…

      • Yep I got the older model 7590. No idea if it will drop lower but good to know were protected if it does. I'm really not sure how the whole price protection works tbh with regards to the discounts etc, I need to look into it some more.

    • I just cancelled an order for the 7500 Vostro for this instead!
Where were you last week when I was trying to figure out if it was worth keeping the Vostro over this.
The system I ordered did not have the larger battery.

      • +1

I doubt you would notice a difference mate. Yours will be lighter.

My Vostro 7590 was delivered today! ordered on the 20th. 4 day turn around. Its a solid unit. Loving what Ive seen so far of it.

Now to expment with some Linux Distros and play with some VM's with GPU passthrough. Waiting on the 2nd 166b stick to arrive from AMazon.

        • Hope so, still waiting for mine!

    Story time….

Got myself Inspiron 14 couple of years ago - EOFY sale.

SSD died 9 months after. Due to 1 year extended warranty, Dell replaced the SSD, after almost a month.
The rep was pushing pretty hard for more extended warranty. I didn't bother.
Few months later battery shit the bed. Can't get more than 45 mins of web surfing on battery.

Worst part - my Windows updates have been failing since March 2019. Dell somehow has AMD drivers configured, even though there isn't a single AMD component on my i7.
If you have free time - read up this thread - https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/XPS-15-9750-with-PM951-Wi…

The only solution is doing a clean install after downloading installation media from Microsoft website, so that you can bypass the previous Windows version altogether.

Still repenting, saving few hundred bucks that I saved in EOFY sale for this piece of doodoo.

Not going to get another Dell for me or my family, ever.

    • That sucks. Hopefully they've stepped their game up by now. I plan to do a bunch of benchmarking and hardware testing as soon as I get my system. Im hoping by getting the Vostro(Biz model), it will have better QA. I'll also probably install from scratch anyway if I do go down the Windows route.

    • Have a very similar story with my XPS 15 so i'm with you. Did it happen to be a newly released inspiron? It seems like they usually take a couple of months before they actually get all the shitty bugs out of their laptops.. at the expense of their consumers

    • Similar story with my brother's G5 (8750H and 1060). On its third motherboard, second battery and charging port, and needing another (likely) motherboard as the clock speed is stuck at 0.79GHz on battery. Seems quite common and have tried every suggestion/fix online :(. Plenty of blue screens, USB ports dropping out etc. Was an amazing value machine, but has been quite frustrating to live with.

    • What did they do with the battery - I am curious about that. Similar experience. Battery completely died (as in cannot work without the plug) a little over a year later and was essentially told by Dell to suck it up and pay ~$400 for a new battery. Regret the laptop and the extra 4 years warranty I purchased.

    • It's not just Dell to be fair. I had a Lenovo e470 which had repeated issues over a couple of years, multiple call outs and parts, several motherboards and they even replaced it for e480 after a while. Then the e480 started having repeated issues of the same sort and they offered me a full refund including on the warranty, so apart from all the trouble it was pretty good having free use of a laptop for 2 years.

Anyway I have upgraded to this Dell in December using the money and a bit more from Lenovo and I purchased the max warranty (4 years international and accident protection) anticipating that I would have issues again. Things have been much better with the Dell so far but I did have the motherboard replaced recently after it stopped charging. Definitely worth purchasing warranty to cover the amount of time before you'd be willing to just replace if it died.

  • Does this Inspiron have the same 220 nits TN screen as the others?
