  • Do anyone know if this is the V2.0 bridge?

  • Just sold my spare that comes with the starter pack this morning for 45$

  • This was available at the same time that the Hue Play was available for about $120 but that’s gone back to original price now.

  • Is this worth picking up as i am looking to start doing some lighting in the new house ?
Or will the be a update new model coming out soon i should wait for

    • No new hub has been announced. They only just dropped the gen 1 support so even if a new model is released this would be supported for a number of years.

If you want standard globes then the starter kits are often a better buy however.

      • especially if you have a target around. they were selling the starter kits for $50 - they still might have them in stock

  • What's the point of having more than one hue bridge? I think one handles a lot of bulbs right?

    • 50 max

They are like eneloops and crack, the more you get the more you want.
I have one for upstairs and one for downstairs, just find it works better that way and don't get they unable to connect at this time message.

    • As above there’s a limit to how many lights you can add to one. Beyond that, some people may still have a first gen or want lights other than those available in a starter kit configuration and therefore need a hub standalone.

Should I fall into Philips Hue eco system? what's the other homekit alternative? Thank you pros

I am a big fan of what they do and have 6 rooms now, all with their own dimmer switch (4x globes, 1 room 120mm downlights, 1 room 90mm downlights). If you only need globes it’s a cheap exercise, and if you do go downlights and have plugs in roof the new 90mm ones as a straight DIY swap. I Was fine to pay for the 120mm install as it was master bedroom and the 90mm didn’t exist at the time. Worst value was games room that originally had 6 Halogen downlights But I think should have only had 4 but now I set up 3 rooms as a zone so they all work together. I hardly have any issues with connectivity and use the app 90% of the time from bed or couch. I also set different auto profiles so lights in living room area which has poor natural light have a daylight temperature and become warmer in the evening.

I’m sure the other brands do similar but I have no complaints with Philips so far.

      • So how many hubs do you have?
Just the one of one per room?
Or just a couple to give enough range in your house?
(We have solid klinker brick walls in our house)
        Sorry for the noob questions…

Just one hub for 16 lights and 5 dimmers. Our hub is quite central but no issues going through a couple of internal 1950s single brick walls.

My favourite part was when I was showing the app to someone at work 20km away and my wife text me to stop being a knob and leave the lights alone.

    • I have a mix of Hue and the Ikea down light bulbs. the good thing is that the ikea lights are hue compatible. I'm honestly extremely happy with my lights and paired to an amazon alexa (or google home) they are great voice-powered lights.

    This vs SmartThings?

SmartThings support more devices including Hue lightbulbs and other sensors from different brands.

    • You still need a hue bridge to use hue bulbs with SmartThings

    • SmartThings does cost more, but does straddle all perhaps like the ring of Sauron?

  • Anyone in Brisbane in need of a bridge? I have a spare 2.0 that’s brand new. Got 2 of the starter kits and have no need for a second. Would sell it for less than this.

    • You will only need the second bridge if the total number of Nue lights and gadgets is over its limit 50-65.

Will be a good idea to keep it for a further upgrade.

      • Fair enough. Will be a long time before I get over that number if ever. So if anyone in bris wants it for a good price, pm me.

  • Check your local Target first before buying, I found the last Starter kit for $50 at Target Liverpool NSW this morning even though online is showing no stock.
