I have the normal version of these headphones, and I can confirm that they are outstanding - highly dynamic and easy to drive (but scale well with improvements in the audio chain).

    • Me too, awesome, my favourites among some higher priced cans I have…

    • Definitely agree, I own heaps of cans and these are my first "wow" moment headphones. Personally they're too heavy for long use though so my daily drivers are still the HE400i - comfiest headphones to date.

Is this good to use for spotify

    • May be overkill for spotify for that price.

    • They make my 64K MP3s sound like hi-res;-)

      • So hi-res to hi-hi-hi-res.

    • -1

Yes, depending on how you get Spotify into the signal chain.

      • Could be how Spotify jerks your chain? Some say they can't hear the Hi-Res difference. But then again, those people don't have Clears.

        • Some say they can't hear the Hi-Res difference

A lot of people confused with Hi-Res and Hi-bitrate, they think Hi-Res just higher bitrate. Same song with higher bitrate you may not be able to feel the difference but true hi-res music you will feel a big difference.

  • I should probably just be happy with my Oppo PM-1s :)

    • Not sure about that. I probably should have been happy with my HD800S, but I'm so glad I got these. Having said that PM-1s are very nice indeed…

      • dammit man, im trying to talk myself out of this…and the HD800s for that matter :D

        • The HD800S are very clinical. Could never part with mine, but they don't get much use since getting my first Focal's, Elears. Loved them so much I picked up some Eligias for work (ah work, I remember going there LOL). Got the Clears in March as I suspected a long stint at home was coming. They rarely leave my head during work hours. I have had a good listen to Utopias, they are a little more resolving, but not worth the price to me. I would have lashed out if they had completely blown me away. Would love to hear some HEDDs and Abyss… A2A must love me LOL

          • @mostlygordon: yeh its an expensive obsession to get in to. Ive been focussing on my home theater setup at the moment. Ended up going with B&W 700 series, so probably need to calm down the spending for a bit :)

            • @DanielP2: Well those PM-1s are about the most premium built cans I've tried. It's been a few years, so I wouldn't attempt to compare SQ. But, I'm sure I'd smile if I had a pair to take out of that lovely wooden case:)

          • @mostlygordon: How is it compared with Hifiman Ananda?

            • +1

@lycos: Not sure what we are comparing. I have not heard Ananda, I do own HE4XX which are good, but not in Clear league. I'm a bit nervous on Hifiman products. The build quality is not great, and forums are filled with horror stories…

              • @mostlygordon: Sorry i meant Focal Clear vs Ananda (and maybe vs HD800)
Ah yeah… it seems there are many complains about Hifiman QC

                • +1

@lycos: HD800 S is like a microscope for your system it will show and issues in source or components. Best soundstage I've heard. Very large cups, they move around your head a bit over time listening and this changes the sound profile a bit. As good as they are, I find them a bit boring and can't listen to them all day.

All the Focal's are coloured, but the most engaging, dynamic cans I've heard. I find the sound signature suits me well and I can easily listen to any of them all day. Clear is best for home especially if you like an open back sound. Elegias are closed back, so good for the office. Elears also for home, tempted to say for budget, but really they sound a bit different to the Clears, not as refined, but interesting.

One other thing to note is the Focal's have 3.5mm plugs rather than the Sennheiser weirdness, so replacement / upgrade cables are more abundant, at better pricing and fit other models (e.g my T1's and HE4XX). The Clears also come with 3 cables, short and long phono and long XLR balanced. The cables are probably worth half the discounted price of the cans…

                  • @mostlygordon: Thank you for your extensive review!

                  • @mostlygordon: How would you compare the Elears to the Clears? I currently have the Elears but theres a suck out in the upper mids that I find really noticeable

                    • @cille745: I have not listened to my Elears since early March, so won't give a big review now. Back then I and had a good ABC test Elear / Clear / Utopia. To me the Clear was a big step up from the Elear in detail retrieval, mids and bass quality. But, I disagree with YouTube reviews saying these are for bassheads. The bass is refined and there when it needs to be, but these are not bass heavy. The Utopias were a very small step up from the Clears for my ears. All the Focals have that great dynamism same as the Elears.

Worth noting the cables are much better than the Elear, plus two more (see above). Plus a beautiful $250 case. Although if memory serves, I think you miss out on the XLR cable with the Clear Professionals are get and extra set of pads instead. SQ is supposed to be the same, just the colour change in the Pro. Edit LOL, just reread the description, yes memory served well.

  • Any chance for Focal Elear?
