Star Wars Squadrons is $49 to pre-order at Amazon, and comes with free delivery, which makes it $1.99 cheaper than the recent JB offer and $10 cheaper than EB Games.

Amazon are pretty good about release date delivery in my experience, though the comments suggest that YMMV.

    Still a good deal but…

Amazon are pretty good about release date delivery in my experience.

My experience with release date has been 0/4, some even being 3+ business days later, and i'm in "metro" sydney.

    • +4

      opposite for me.
      1 was one day early
      1 was on release day

    • +1

During Covid, they have dropped the ball a bit, but to be honest before that they've been flawless with release date delivery.

    • +2

I don't preorder much from Amazon but in my experience RDR2 came morning of release, Borderlands 3 came like 3 business days after release, The Last of Us 2 hadn't even shipped by the day before release so I cancelled it. I think from now on games I want to play on day 1 I will be buying from my local store.

      • -1

Same, Pre-orders have generally come the day before release for me. None after release date.

    • Hmmm.

      Are you a Prime Customer?

I seem to always get my copies on Release Date and I live in Tasmania.

      Last example: TLoU2.

      • +2

I'm Prime, and my experiences are like Jofzar's. Usually I don't even get the 'your shipment has been mailed' email until the night of the release day.

        • That sucks man.

I always get the your shipment has been mailed the night before (around 7pm). Then it arrives the next day.

I think it all depends on who Amazon uses as their courier in your area. Ours in Tas are Australia Post Contractors which are different to regular Australia Post it seems. Because even if you have two items coming that day, they'll come separately.

I'm prime, live 15 minutes from the Amazon DC in Melbourne, 99% of the time get stuff within 1 day but got my TLoU2 preorder on Tuesday the week after release. They didnt even bother shipping it until the Monday. Wont be preorder with Amazon again.

        • When did you order it they had to fulfill the people who ordered the game first

          • @stevo82: October 2019, which is why I was extra mad about it.

    • +1

Same for me, I live in Metro Melbourne and it's been hit and miss.

Really sucks having a delivery expected on Friday only for it to be delayed until Monday.

I just go in and buy it in store nowadays to avoid the dissapointment.

    • +1

Yep, pre-ordered TLOU2 and only received today and I'm in Melbourne metro area :/

    • my own experience with 3 copies of animal crossing new horizons on release a few months ago was 2 copies i purchased for friends in adelaide and brisbane metro got it a day early, mine came 3 days late (about 1hr south east of brisbane) since they don't seem to deliver on the weekend. that one sucked, had prime too

Amazon are pretty good about release date delivery in my experience.

I beg to differ. I selected Expedited delivery for my last pre-order and didn't get it until Tuesday (today) for a Friday release. Their support claimed it release date delivery was never promised despite the product page clearly stating to choose Expedited to get it on time at the time of order (which of course they removed).

Note that nowhere on the product page anywhere does it mention release date delivery for this game, so you can't even raise them up on it later.

I implore people to avoid Amazon for game pre-orders.

    • +1

For future reference if you contact them after the delivery date they will usually refund you the purchase price.

      • I did contact them (twice) and they only credited me a total of $17. They hadn't even shipped it till late on the release date itself.

Love that this game has full on VR support. Reckon that will be pretty awesome for those with a PSVR gathering dust.

    • +2

VR Star Wars flight sim is bucket-list level of hype.

  • +5

    remember, no pre orders

    • yep

    • Not really the same with Amazon since you do not pay until it is shipped.

      • +2

I wouldn't say amazon not shipping the game is my biggest concern. I'm more worried about EA delivering a half baked game filled with microtransaction.

        • They've already confirmed no microtransactions.. but agreed EA can be really hit or miss.. I've preordered to lock in the price/any future drops but will be monitoring previews closely.

  • Nice price but pre-ordering on Amazon is a gamble so if you don't care about possibly getting it later than release date then sure otherwise I'd avoid.

  • +1

I mean, I guess you can always pre-order and then cancel before release since Amazon don't charge before shipping… but jeez, I feel like pre-ordering a Star Wars game is a bit of a gamble even after the pretty solid Fallen Order unless you're a diehard fan that'd buy this regardless.

    • the pre-order price normally seems to be the lowest for a while. I'd also rather wait for reviews but thinking maybe place the order and cancel before it ships if it's another battlefront

  • Good deal. Thanks OP
If wanting this day 1, I'd say don't hold your breath (unless you pay for priority shipping).
From my experience, delivery speed has been more negative than positive. Latest example is with TLOU2. Pre-ordered it 7 weeks ago and my game is still yet to be shipped. Expected delivery is this Friday (1 week after release)

  • Last 2 games I pre-ordered from amazon came late,Melbourne metro. never again.

  • +5

I don't pre-order games any more after EA's Battlefront 1. After that disaster I don't buy EA games new any more either, only buy them used because EA are such a horrible company and don't deserve a cent from me. I'm not in a hurry to play this one either despite being a massive fan of the X-Wing series of games from the 90's because EA haven't included the B-Wing or TIE Defender in this game yet. Huge oversight. And multiplayer being limited to 5 v 5, seriously? Should be 12 v 12 minimum because that's the actual squadron size number in Star Wars canon.

    • There may be AI bots included in your wing command. Early days yet…

      • Yep, another good reason not to pre order. Still early days in development.

        • If it follows the pattern of recent EA releases, it will take them a good 12 months to add the content missing on day one and you'll be able to buy it for $5-10.

Besides, $49 is what's listed on steam, don't think this price is anything special.

  • Take my wallet!

  • Friends don't let friends preorder

  • Does anyone have any VR headset recommendations for this game and the PS4? Outside of Sony's headset?
    Cheers

question coming from a VR newbie

    • +1

Only PSVR works with PS4, so you only have one option unfortunately.

      • +1

Well! That answers that question :-) Thanks!!

  • Thanks OP. Ordered. Super keen to dust off the PSVR for this one. Hopefully, it doesn't make me too sick.

  • Imagine if this was no man's sky, 😮 people would freak out.

  • We are a tiny bit cheaper at $48.90 (we guarantee delivery on release date) but the free delivery amazon offers its very hard to beat given the wholesale cost is around $46 inc @Swapware
