My daughter was talking about these so I checked online - despite a bizarre claim that RRP is $99.99, the camels show that it's typically $50 and at the moment it's down to $42.50.
$50 or more everywhere else I checked (Big W, Book Depository etc). Individual books are around $8 so cheaper to grab this even if you have a couple of them already.

Series description (verbatim from Amazon):
Weir Dos one of the weirdest kids in school. With an unforgettable name, a crazy family and some seriously weird habits, fitting in wont be easy… But it will be funny! The Spooky Weird Collectionit doesnt get any weirder than that!

My kid enjoyed all of these - I think they are usually about $8 each in Kmart so the box set is a good saving.
They're pretty good books, but quite short - we'd get through one in a couple of bedtimes (about an hour reading time).

Agreed - my daughter smashed through the Hot Dog series and is now mowing through these. She finds them so entertaining she can't put them down, so they're finished pretty quickly.

The Treehouse series though take her a bit longer and are great.

      • May I ask what age are the kids reading these books?

        • Daughter is 7 and can’t get enough of the Anh Do books, Treehouse series and the Captain Underpants books.

        • Six and a half - we've been doing these sort of books for about six months. She can read the Ahn Do books alone.

I started by reading Weir Do to her, then got her to join in reading alternate chapters.
Last weekend she went to a 7th birthday party, picked up one of the gifts and sat reading it to herself while the party was going on (Ninja Kid by Weir Do)!

The Weir Do books are good: nice stories usually with simple, positive lessons to be taken from them (eg teamwork, or acceptance of those that are different), so something you can discuss afterwards. I would probably say enjoyable by ages 6-10 but not a reading challenge beyond 7. Likewise with 'Hot Dog' (and Ninja Kid, which I haven't read myself). 'Hot Dog' is a shallower material and probably won't hold interest beyond 8 year olds.

We also read the 'Bad Guys' series by Aaron Blabey, where we each do certain characters.

The '13-Storey Treehouse' series is a harder read but 6-and-half year old can cope with it now. It's slapstick, juvenile comedy, some of which goes over her head. Funny and clever in parts, tedious and crude in others. The illustrations and footnotes can interrupt the flow of the story though - but that's missing the point of those books. She loves them though.

The other child loved the 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' series, but I can't remember what age - about 8 - 11 years possibly.

  • I rate this series. They're the only books my nephew voluntarily reads. Good artwork too
