Which Streaming Service Is Enough to Watch 4K @ 20 Mbps Evening Speed or Less

Dear all 4K viewers :

My area has only Opticomm and muy current plan is 9Mbps at 54$. Planning to upgrade 20Mbps (69$). Which streaming service allows stream 4K at this speed. Please provide your experience.

Don't want to go higher plan (99$ at 77 Mbps, Exetel) too expensive for me. My usage is max 1 hour weekdays and may be 2 hours weekends.

Thanks alot for your suggestions.

Note: I'm the only one using internet at home.

Sounds like you are looking to choose an appropriate NBN plan to watch 4K streaming TV.

(A better title would be "which NBN service is fast enough to watch 4k @ 20 Mbps evening speed or less").

Anyway, taking Netflix as an example, it's recommended you have at least 25 Mbps to watch Ultra HD/4K quality streams.

I would recommend getting an NBN50 plan as a minimum, though if you really are the only person to use the internet at home, an NBN25 plan should also suffice.

I'm not sure what the best plans are for now, but Launtel have an offer where you can get the NBN50 speed for about $63 a month for 180 days, increasing to $67 a month afterwards.

Charged by the day and you can increase or decrease speeds per day (and pay the appropriate daily rate) depending on your needs.

    • Thanks for your help. But my area is only Opticomm. Just updated description to include that.

I would just opt to download the shows in advance, store them locally and delete them when you've watched them. Assuming you have a curent Netflix account anyway. Then you don't need to worry about the network upgrade just for 4k.

Though I'd also likely upgrade anyway, for all the other reasons.

    • Oh we can download 4K content from Netflix ?. I don't know about it. Let me search. Thanks for your idea.

  • Netflix can do 4k at 7.62 Mbps which is currently the cap due to covid but I think will goes up to 15.26 Mbps once uncapped.

Amazon prime is roughly 15 Mbps minimum speed, I'm not sure if they have a bitrate higher than this.

    • Your numbers are well under target 20 mbps. Appreciate your time

    • Are we still actually getting 4k @ 7.62Mbps?

Which streaming service allows stream 4K at this speed

No one is blocking 4K stream at lower speed, you will just experience buffering.
With actual 20 Mbps you might just survive but if that's what the advert is, you're lucky to get 10 Mbps during peak hours with Opticomm.

    https://techtalk.currys.co.uk/tv-gaming/tv/how-fast-does-my-…
    Netflix minimum 25mbps
    Amazon Video minimum 15mbps
    Apple TV minimum 13mbps
    YouTube minimum 13mbps
    Hulu minimum 13mbps
    Vudu minimum 11mbps
    Vimeo minimum 22mbps

You may have a selection of providers even with Opticomm for a more competitive pricing, try https://www.nbnco.com.au/residential/service-providers, enter your address, then click view providers in your area.
