JOBY GorillaPod Mobile Rig $98 ($0 C&C/Delivery) @ Officeworks

70

Was about to pull a trigger on the Joby Gorillapod Griptight Pro 2 from Apple for $129, then saw that Officeworks sell the GorillaPod Mobile Rig (which is the same as above, plus includes 2 additional handles) for only $98.

The blurb:
"This GorillaPod Smartphone Rig is designed to push your vlogging and mobile content to its full potential. It allows you to add devices like microphones, lights and action cameras to the mount, adding a professional quality to your smartphone camera.

It turns your GorillaPod into a content creation hub, allowing you to mount microphones, lights or additional cameras alongside your smartphone.
Its build consists of ABS plastic, stainless steel, TPE and aluminium.
The tilt is easily adjustable and allows you to switch from landscape to portrait.
It includes 2 GorillaPod arms, 2 cold shoe mounts and 1 GoPro mount.
It comes in a sleek, black design."

It seems to retail for roughly $130-$150, although on Google I did find it on a couple of sites for $108.49, $119 (although I've never heard of these sites so not sure of the authenticity).

The Officeworks Stock Checker said my local store had heaps, but alas I showed up and there was none, but have done free next day delivery online.

I was doing a lot of comparing on TriPods this morning, and this one (and similar) have pretty favourable reviews.

**EDIT: I also bought the Joby Impulse Bluetooth Remote for Smartphones which was only $26. Seems to be about 40% cheaper than everywhere online!

    Looks overpriced.

A little more would get you a DJI mobile gimbal or something else.

This isn't a gimbal. Nor is it designed to be a gimbal.

    • I've used an Osmo and don't like it. There's no way you could attach lights or a mic like this one without unbalancing the thing. This also doesn't require an app to work.

You are right, I just mean that for $100 I would hope it would do more then that. A quick look on aliexpress etc shows that there are heaps of solutions for $20+ that hold a phone + attachments.

Also Osmo doesn't require the app to work, only if you want face tracking/stories etc.

        • I'd trust something from AliExpress to hold my phone as much as I trust the CCP.

Don't do it. The tripod is gesturing that it is unarmed and surrenders.

it's black though, so we all know how this will end…
