Niigata is known in Japan for its “Three White” treasures, i.e. snow, rice and sake, and a naturally blessed environment for pure water source. Made in Niigata, SHINOBU (meaning “Forbearance” in Japanese) Whisky is hand crafted by the creative master blender, Mr. Usami, by carefully selecting whisky from different distilleries which are first reserved in ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks and then finishing them with precious Japanese Mizunara oak. The blended expression contains 50% malt and 50% grain. The result is a unique fusion of flavours and dynamic explosion in palate yet so smooth and easy to drink. All natural with no colouring.

TASTING NOTES BY 2019 ULTIMATE SPIRITS CHALLENGE

Softly roasted nuts, jellied pear, and honeysuckle all come through on the nose of this Japanese whisky. Black pepper and clove come through early on the palate, ripe citrus fruit and baked apples developing before a long, smooth finish.

    I'll give it a crack

I have had this one and the 15yo. I do believe they have sourced whisky from other countries and put them in Japanese Mizunara oak at the final stage. I wouldn't consider them to be true Japanese Whisky. This was reviewed by Whiskytribe on youtube for anyone who is interested.

    • Agreed. There are cheaper and better blends of Scotch or Canadian whisky that don't have "cool" Japanese text and graphics on them. If you really want Japanese whisky, you have to fork out for a Suntory or Nikka (which are great, but not worth it at current market prices).
