[Switch] Streets of Rogue $15 (was $30) - Nintendo eShop Australia

140

I've been keeping an eye on this one to drop back down to $15 - I played the very early access version on PC and it was definitely one to watch out for once it was in a more completed state.

Given all the positive reviews, I'm happy to give it as shot at this price.

I bought this when it was last on sale for $15

I haven't played it a great deal, but my thoughts:
    - Initially it's extremely overwhelming even understanding how to properly begin the game, I found myself wandering around wondering why I couldn't select certain options, but I think they have to be unlocked
    - The way I played the game I found it quite difficult (all guns blazing). I'm sure if people played a bit slower and avoided confrontation they could progress further, but that wasn't my style
    - Good variety of events/NPCs/etc, but this leads to lots of (again for me, initially overwhelming) options when you start a run. Do I bribe people? Do I intimidate them?
    - Certain events end up needing to be handled in a certain way due to the randomness. e.g.: I need to get something from a safe but the person holding the key is behind a locked door, and I don't have any equipment yet. I could skip this mission or I could kick the door in and get attacked. Similarly the 'rescue person X' missions tend to boil down to sneaking past a guard and flicking a switch, hopefully sneaking back out or getting attacked. Make sure to practice how to punch effectively!

I'll be sure to give it another go but it didn't grab me in the same way as other roguelikes (Binding of Isaac, Slay the Spire, etc)

    • The game contains many characters in which they all have different play styles and pace.

      • Yeah I know that, just that the time I spent with it didn't endear me to play around lots with various characters.

Good game for people who like the genre but if people are looking for a more 'direct' roguelike I would say try one of the other roguelikes on switch
