So the "18 piece" includes the lids.

    • Yeah, they're quite cheeky like that

      • +2

At least no cable ties in there.

    • +1

      Yep 9 Containers + 9 Lids :)

      • -3

Change title to say 9 containers.

    • This is standard practice unfortunately. Same with Nutri Bullets and knife blocks etc… they all increase the "pieces" count by literally adding all of the pieces.

This might be a dumb thing to mention, but the lids are not microwavable - I learnt that the hard way :)
Edit: "Lids are BPA free, microwave and safe." - maybe mine were faulty?

    • +1

It says the lids are microwave safe in the description.

    • +1

Were the lids on tight, or resting on the glass. When microwaving, you need to be able to release the steam while cooking.

      • Lids were on tight

        • Best to always leave lids loosely on top - never leave the container fully sealed when microwaving.

    • I've had the same thing. Little spots on the lids have melted, luckily not all the way through.
I rest the lid on tom to stop splattering when I reheat frozen spaghetti sauce.
I don't know if it's oil super-heating and melting the lids.
Now I just sit paper towel over it.

Why not use a glass/china plate on top instead? Plastic is shit for you when heated. Even bpa free plastics have shown to contaminate food when heated.

      @Sir Flabo
      "maybe mine were faulty?"

No, you are correct, mine buckled too even though "Lids are BPA free, microwave and safe."

I now leave the lids loose on top rather than 'fitted' onto the container.

      • I definitely left the lids fitted on the container when mine warped and hardened.

    • They are microwavable, but I don't recommend it. It can warp the plastic and make the seal no longer airtight.

  • Is there a Tupperware set that has the same size lids, but different sized containers?

  • +1

This one looks better value. Swaps out one of the tiny 1 cup ones for a bigger one: https://www.amazon.com.au/Pyrex-Rectangular-Container-18-Pie…

This is the new exploding Pyrex variety.

    • +1

YES!! Please do a quick google search and see for yourself. Quality has come down and glass is now much cheaper/not the same.

    • Yep - need to buy either EU/French PYREX or search out the old stuff (and I mean old). This new US stuff is soda-lime rubbish.

  • Don't need pyrex, any other glass containers which are better than kmart style?

    • +2

The IKEA range is really good, they are a good price and come with clip-on lids.

      • We have both the Kmart and Ikea types with clip on lids and find they are essentially the same when it comes to function/quality.

        • I haven't tried the Kmart ones since their lids are not advertised as microwave safe (it says to remove the lid before putting in the microwave) whereas the IKEA ones are (up to 100°C in the microwave).

  • +3

I find the glass decor ones to be better quality. The lids on the Pyrex ones fail and crack easy. The decor ones seem to last longer. YMMV

    • I second this and the glass is better quality

    • better lids, but the glass is not as smooth.

  • +1

Check to make sure you are buying PYREX, not pyrex

    • edit: derp, don't mind me

    • Yup had that happen when placed from oven onto a slightly wet benchtop.

  • We got this one, has the oven friendly rectangular dish that the wife seems to love.

I would consider getting some of the IKEA glass container range with the clip-on lids instead.

    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/search/products/?q=365%20glass%20…

    400ml round $3.49
    600ml square $4.49
    1L rectangle $4.99
    1.2L square tall $5.49
    1.8L rectangle tall $6.49
    3.1L rectangle casserole $12.99

I have about half a dozen each of the 600ml and 1L ones as I find they are the most convenient size containers for me. The containers, lids and silicone seals can all be purchased separately too so you don't have to replace the whole thing if something breaks.

If you wanted to get something similar to the 18-piece pyrex set, you could get 4x 400ml, 2x 600ml, 1x 1L, 2x 1.8L for $40.91.

Personally though I'd upgrade from the round containers which don't pack as efficiently and instead get: 4x 600ml, 4x 1L, 1x 1.8L for $44.41. The 3.1L rectangular casserole dish is also very useful as you can bake a family sized meal in the oven and then put the lid on afterwards for storing in the fridge.
