Only 8inch? I have a 10inch and even it's not enough bass. 12inch is the sweet spot, that's what she says.

Not true 8 is enough for a small room and a good quality sub

Congratulations, you have solved acoustics engineering. Please accept this Nobel prize.

Your sub is not being powered by your fancy amp. The sub is powered by its own internal amp

          • @thorpef1: My wife wasn’t happy either when I said all I have is an 8 inch knowing there are 10 inchers out there.

          • @thorpef1: *Only most of the time
Passive subwoofers do exist, although not nearly as common these days. Especially with most amps only having a sub pre-out

            • @Rail Rider95: Totally agree.
But a 7.2 channel amp wouldn't be powering the sub, it would be a dedicated mono/stereo amp rather than a receiver if the sub was passive

              • @thorpef1: I currently use a 5.1 Sony amp/receiver that powers my passive 8" subwoofer.
                (Yes it's a system from the 90s).

Weak, and ported. Get a 2nd hand SB-2000 instead for not much more money and a lot better bass.

those rarely go under $900 secondhand and that's a lot of money as compared to sub $400 for this Yammy!

      • +1

Wow, I didn't expect they'd be so much - I got mine for $1150 brand new! Just goes to show that quality holds its value I guess.

        • spot on - well worth the $$'s

Wouldn't you be better off with the cheaper Voll 8"?

  • How do you think it compares to say the Bowers & Wilkins ASW608 8" Subwoofer

    https://www.todds.com.au/collections/subwoofers/products/asw…

I know it's a fair bit more, I believe it has dropped down to about 600 before.

Would there be a noticeable difference

I bought one of these end of last year off Amazon for 349.. it doesn't hold a candle to my Monitor Audio Bronze 10" but it does decently in a small room partnered with my KEF LSX. For the price I'm happy but then again it was only bought as an interim until I got a new plate amp for my Monitor Audio sub.

  • If it's for music, I highly recommend the Wharfedale SW-150 in this price range…. JB often have them on sales. Cheap enough to buy 2 ;)
