its a kit to restore and protect faded black plastics if anyone wanted to know

  • +1

For anyone interested, Linseed oil does an amazing job on restoring faded plastics. I would only use it on exterior surfaces. Only a small amount on a rag is needed. Inexpensive and returns the look back to new again. Apply only in the shade. I even use it on my black powder coated pool fence, and it brings it up like new.

Don't use unboiled linseed, only boiled for this purpose.

  • If you want to dive down a rabbit hole check out the 'bowdens own detailers' Facebook group, then compare it to the 'banned from bowdens own' Facebook group.

For the record this is a dye based restorer and works a treat on porous stuff.

Just be aware, posting stacking/hacks to buy kits cheaper than advertised isn't supported by those groups.

None of my deal posts (i.e. stacking cashrewards increased cashback with a sitewide discount etc..) ever made it to the group.

Afterpaying $600 worth of bowdens products though… straight to the top

They make some really good products… the group is tightly moderated though

  • Anyone know if I can use this to make the chrome trim around my car window blackened?

    • +1

No as it's not a porous material.
You would need to sand/scuff it and apply primer and paint.

    • Vinyl wrap. Google blackout kits for your car.

  • Bowden's Own may have an active marketing department and you pay for that. This kit seems good value though:

    Mr. Black $50
    Flash Prep $25
    Applicators $20
    Microfibre $14

    TOTAL $109

That doesn't include the two pairs of gloves and the foam brush (for which I couldn't find individual prices).

Your pricing is a bit off, it's $20 for a full sized bottle of Flash Prep, it's just a small one in the box. The Black Apps applicators are also $14. I don't think you can get the Dark Deeds cloth separately, it's more like a suade or something than micro fibre even though they call it micro fibre. I also only got one pair of gloves (two gloves of differing sizes) not that they're expensive.

Anyway, this kit is good value and the stuff works great. Two of my cars live out in the weather and have trims looking like new since I used this stuff a few months ago. All the other oil/silicone based products I used previously would need to be done weekly or thereabouts.

If you have Tyre Sheen lying around, it works well too.
