  • bloody hell,
4 x $100 bottles (from dan murphys RRP)

This seems like a decent deal.

I've had the Martins Vineyard Shiraz from a previous deal. It's a good drop, but definitely not $100 good.
In a blind tasting, I'd probably value them around $20-30 (so still a good deal!)

Martin's vineyard is the same mob as Curtis Family wines who Wine Direct have been flogging for years now, always with a massive RRP. Just take a look at this $900 odd worth of wine for $190! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/491880 or back in 2017 $840 for $240! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/293609

Even Qantas sold this for less than $30 a bottle - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/492234

Some years they have a decent drop, but it's nowhere near $100 a bottle good. This is just their marketing strategy.

I'd actually rate that OT shiraz as one of the best I've tasted from the region.
IMO - worth more than the $30 rrp they've got here.
Bought two of the cases (it's going to be a loooong winter).
    Cheers OP.

    • Did you taste/get the same vintage ie 2017?

      • Fair call - I'm not 100% sure. We were there last year so it could have been the 2018.

      • OT 2017 vintage rates as best value on vivino. In normal times (pre-covid) I'd expect to pay $25+ for a wine that quality.

        Martins absolutely a $30+ wine.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't rate the Nillahcootie as good value. Have tried that vintage and found we needed to decant and drink reasonably smartly - it didn't like being left to hang around. Maybe just too used to SA shiraz but it was too tart and dry for me. At $15 in DM's I'd leave it on the shelf.

  • Tried the Martins and was not overly impressed but got one to try the others.

  • Looking forward to trying these out, although the Martins Vineyard Shiraz will be saved for future drinking as it best to 2032.

Don't be afraid to rip into one now with a good decant! :)

      • I'm sure the temptation will be too great to save all 4. We've also got a wine gurgler so we can experiment with that as well.

I used to think the Aerators were nonsense until I got myself a good one. They really are amazing! Work a treat.

  • There is still some stock of this pack, but due to overwhelming success, it is running low. Grab it while you can.
