[Switch] Taiko No Tatsujin Drum N Fun - 11x Free DLC Songs @ Nintendo eShop

1160

Celebrating 1 million sales of the Switch version of Taiko no Tatsujin there is a free song pack of 10x songs available now.

- Boku no→Chikyu, Bokura no Chikyu
- MOJIPITTAN Medley
- KATAMARI on the rock ~ Main theme
- No Way Back
- The arrow was shot
- IN THE ZONE
- Brave Sword, Braver Soul
- KARMA(Tatsujin Mix)
- NAMCOT Medley
- Fun-Filled Drum-Filled Taiko Dojo

Also noticed there is another song free at the moment too, GODSONG.

Quick edit courtesy of user shadoxz, there is another song pack currently free as well, Ninjabox Pack

Also the Nekoko + Tomomo character pack - essentially your character avatar/player icon - no songs included in this one, but hey, free as well.

Please note that DLC for "Drum N Fun" (ie the English release for US/EU/etc) is region free, so if you own the US import for some reason any DLC purchased from the Australian eshop will be compatible and vice versa.

If you have imported the Japanese version of the game "Nintendo Switch ver." Then it is only compatible with the Japanese eshop DLC. I'm not sure how the Asia version of game behaves however.

Thanks mate! Time to get whacking. Um… it's not what it sounds like.

  • what kinda drum you guys use?

    • I just use the buttons

    • +2

I cut my teeth on the PSP versions so I feel pretty at home with the buttons primarily.

I did however purchase one of those cheap 3rd party drums for about $50 after I got the itch to get a bit more percussive.

I think I got it off ebay from memory but this is essentially what I bought:

      https://m.aliexpress.com/item/4000405183967.html?pid=808_000…

There are a few different 3rd party branded ones but they all appear to be identical. Can't vouch for that seller just picked a random example

It works pretty good for the price, surprisingly responsive which I was not expecting. I have read a few players accounts that it is not great, but I think a lot of that is down to the feel vs the official branded accessories.

The 3rd party drum is essentially big buttons for the sensors, vs the genuine article being an array of sensors underneath the padding. The general consensus about the official drum however is that it needs to be modded (not too difficult but fiddly) for best performance.

Given the drum was only going to be something for the occasional bash, I opted not to worry about getting the HORI version and went with the 3rd part cheapie. It's been great so far. Also comes with a USB to USB C mini adapter so you can plug it into the Switch when playing away from the dock :-)

      • Any idea if that drum would work for the PS4?
I have both the Switch and PS4 but the PS4 Drum n Fun is cheaper right now.

        • +1

Out of the box, I believe the answer is no.. however understand there is a mayflash controller adapter that allows you to use it on PS4 as well.

That said, I do own the PS4 version as well, let me plug in my Switch drum to PS4 and I'll report back if it works or not but pretty sure it's a no.

Edit: OK I haven't tested yet, but have found that this adapter

          https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https:/…

Will allow you to use the PS4 drum on the Switch. There are also similar 3rd party drums available for the PS4 that pretty much look the same as the Switch one just have to use a PS4 controller plugged in instead of the inline micro control pad:

          https://m.nl.aliexpress.com/item/32946760198.html?pid=808_00…

Don't know how I would up on Dutch aliexpress sorry.

          • +1

@Benbenbenben: I can confirm that the Mayflash adapted works well to use the PS4 drums on the Switch but the Switch drums are slightly better.

        • +1

OK gave the Switch drum a test on the PS4 but unfortunately was not recognised at all. Looks like the best way if you want it on both is to buy the PS4 drum, and the Mayflash Magic NS adapter to be able to then use the PS4 drum on the Switch. :-)

          • @Benbenbenben: Thank you!

I only need 1 version, just that the Switch drums have better reviews on aliexpress(barely any PS4 drums sold there) while the PS4 version of the game is cheaper.

Might just get the Switch drum and wait till the game is on sale.

            • @gaber: No sweat!

The Switch version has dropped down to 50% a few times now, good chance it'll be on sale again next time BandaiNamco stuff is doing discounts.

In any event, reccomend you "purchase" the free DLC now so it's tied to your account even not owning the game. Just future proofs you should this be a timed freebie that goes paid later on. Then if you do eventually get it for Switch you'll have an additional 11x songs in the mix!

      • I got super addicted to Taiko no Tatsujin on PSP. It played great with the PSP buttons and d-pad. I tried the demo on Switch and it just didn't feel nearly as nice. I'll probably try the Switch version if it goes cheap and I wouldn't mind trying it with a decent drum controller.

    • Hori drum

  • Does this apply to the jap one

  • how does this play on the switch? do you use the joycons as the drum sticks? Does it work well

    • You can simply use the buttons if you want, but you can also detach the joycons and swing them with the motion controls to simulate swinging the drum sticks. There is also a HORI branded (officially partnered with Nintendo) drum, as well as some 3rd party branded ones. All the drums plug in via USB to the dock, but you can use a USB C adapter to plug directly into the switch if playing tabletop/out of dock.

I love the buttons, have honestly never tried the motion controls, but also bought a cheap 3rd party drum so that I could mess around with the full setup when the moment strikes me.

  • Thank you!

  • Thanks OP! Just went and downloaded the DLC from the Japanese eshop (I imported the bundle with the Hori Tatacon) and noticed that some of the paid DLC for the game is currently on sale with 15%/16% off as well :)

Haven't checked AU/US eshop so don't know if it's all regions.

  • I imported the game from the UK with the drum at release and it's been great.

What are everyone's favourite paid dlcs?

    • +1

I was surprised how few vocaloid songs were in the standard song list!

They are mostly quite difficult but I purchased one or two of the vocaloid packs and have been enjoying those.

Haven't bought heaps and heaps of the DLC but just to get a bit more variety I have just cherry picked a few of the cheaper packs that have the most songs.

Some of the song packs that have like 2 songs can be more expensive than packs with 5 in them aha

    • Trying to find the bundle but no luck. Any suggestions?

If I get the game and HORI controller separately are they essentially the same thing?

      • +1

Yeah, the bundle contents are the HORI drum and the game packed together in one box. So if you found the HORI drum separately it is identical to the bundled drum.

Not sure on the best / most cost effective place to find them at the moment though, sorry!

  • I bought a third party used drum set from someone at gumtree for $15.

Works great with the drum, especially funny when your kids plays them like a pro with posing stance.

It would be nice to have a bigger drum set for the adults version as I really adore this game.

    • +1

Agreed. There is somrthing called the Taiko Force Lv5

      https://world.taobao.com/item/560834032433.htm

Which is a fan made, but professional level drum that is essentially equivalent in size and performance to the arcade drums. Designed to work with pretty much every current console version plus PC.

It is however phenomenally expensive at like $500USD and really for the absolute Taiko enthusiast.

Its a bit of a pity there isn't more of a middle ground to acquire a slightly larger drum surface in a pre-built setup.

      • 😅 $500usd…i think i would just use my third party drum lol.

        • That drum is handmade to order, thus the expensive price tag. Fortunately it is made in China, otherwise I think you will be looking at at least doubled price.

  • Oh man, I'd love this but the game was 50% off only a few months ago, back to $90! :( Missed it ..

    • You should be able to still "purchase" all the free songs to your account. Then you're free to wait it out until the next 50% sale (it's been that discount a few times now I think) and then even if the DLC does go paid, you'll still have it purchased on your account - just in the event that the DLC goes paid before the game itself has gone on sale again.

      • Great, thanks for the tip!

    • Noticed the price of this last night, almost choked on my tea!

    • Found it on Amazon for $72.19. Not 50% off but beats paying $90.

  • Sorry just got my Switch console, not quite sure how does it work. I got a message says "You must have the software in order to play" the link above is not for game? is it only an addone? And I have to pay $99?

    • +1

Hey, yeah these are extra songs for the game. Free downloadable content, but you must own the base game Taiko no Tatsujin Drum N Fun to be able to use them.

    • The base game is usually cheapest from the US store when on sale. Combined with discounted US gift card it can be a pretty good deal. However Nintendo do allow you to buy DLCs without owning the original game, unlike apple IAPs.

  • thanks OP :) sounds wonderful

  • What's the go with people getting the Japanese version? Is it better? My drum just arrived at the distribution place, hopefully I get it tomorrow. It's been a long wait.

    • I would say it is the folks that ordered it from Japan before it was actually localized into English and other languages.

From memory if your Switch is set to English the Japanese version had full English support so very import friendly.

Also, there was no mention of any English release for sometime so the early adopters imported the Japanese version instead.

Both Japanese + the localized versions are 99% identical in content. There is a train themed anime series, Shinkalion, that got I think the theme song as DLC - I believe it's just this one song that is unavailable for the local version.

      • Is it? From what I have heard the Jap version only comes with Japanese, Korean and Chinese UI supports.

        • Sorry, out of the box it didn't have English but that was patched in shortly after release.

          • @Benbenbenben: Ah OK that makes sense. But I believe it is usually more expensive than the US/EU/AUS versions so probably little incentives for non CJK speakers to get the Jap version.

            • @truetypezk: Ya, at this point it wouldn't make much sense to get the Japanese version.

Much easier to manage the DLC not having a 2nd account and getting funds on to the Japanese eshop.

Like I say I reckon the folks that have the JP one just imported before the existence of the English one was revealed, or didn't want to wait 6 months for it to drop locally when they could get the JP version immediately.

CAUTION: Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum'n'Fun! is required to use this product. You need to buy the original game first.

  • +1

Looking down the list of the DLC, Ninjabox pack is also currently free (unsure if it was already free previously).

    • +2

Oh nice work, I hadn't logged out of my Nintendo account so you don't see the price of you've already purchased. Must have already claimed the Ninjabox pack previously.

Thanking you though I'll edit that into the main post a little later.

If you haven't already claimed/purchased it there are some free characters (essentially just your player icon picture) on the eshop as well:

      https://ec.nintendo.com/AU/en/aocs/70050000008362

Admittedly they have been free since nearly the game launched though so likely already got them.

      • nice - I don't even have the game yet but it's on the wish list.

Found this drum on AliExpress for $41.72 delivered if anyone is looking for one, extra discount if you have coupons on AliExpress.

    • Looks like that's in US dollars?

      • +1

The price must have went up since I posted the comment. If you haven't installed the AliExpress extension before, you can get US$3 off.

  • Found a HORI drum set on Play-Asia for $96 + p/h which seems pretty fair, especially as it's sold out anywhere else. Thoughts?

    • Postage is $60+
