Possibly targeted? Confirmed in comments it's targeted. This just arrived in my inbox. T&Cs says it expires one week after email date.

3 Free code - eats125
5 Free code - eats831 (Minimum $10 purchase apparently no minimum required)

Thanks to Sadtofu who added the '5 Free' code in the comments below. Also, ozbmm posted a deal for 100 free deliveries in 30 days.

The fine print:

Valid for use on up to 3 delivery orders only. Promo expires 7 days after the date this email was sent. To be eligible for this offer, promo code must be entered into the Uber Eats app prior to ordering. An amount equivalent to the delivery fee will be deducted from your total order value as a promotion each time. Limited to intended recipient of the email only. 3 Free Delivery Fees for 7 Days

Yeah, they'll just take the money from the restaurant instead…

    • +1

      Is this true?

        • +1

not conclusive, but thanks for the info!

Are there any alternatives to Uber Eats?
By using AppInstitute, you are able to build your very own takeaway app for both Apple and Google Play stores without the need to code.

Having your own app is a fantastic Uber Eats alternative – including some benefits you won’t be able to get from a third party service.

Yea, no facts and a company that's advertising it's own competitive product. They also do not account for the advertising UberEats gives them.

For starters, their 'You've lost $165 per $1000' (16.5%) bar, and then state 'reports suggest an average order being 20-25%'. Are they just making these percentages up?!

I'm not, not saying UberEats charge excessively, ethically or otherwise.

          • +4

@rompastompa: if you need to know, ubereats takes 38.5% commission in 2019 on a "good" deal. im guessing in 2020, its most likely increased to 40%. i was an ex-restaurant operations manager for 3 restaurants.

            • @danieroo: Wow that's depressing.

I bet we pay a significantly higher proportion of our income to tax than they pay revenue to tax too.

              • +1

@arcticmonkey: its the sad reality and one of the main reasons i quit the restaurant business since ubereats came in. now, its absolutely taking over restaurants especially during covid19.

              • +1

@arcticmonkey: They paid $8 million on a revenue of $800 million.

                https://www.afr.com/technology/uber-australia-makes-785m-pay…

I hate them. I think they're an evil and insidious company. I haven't placed an UberEats order in over a year and a half.

                • @shruglord: Thank you for clarifying.

I wish I could pay 1% income tax.

A lot of that money would go offshore as well.

            • @danieroo: That's significant! My comment was more that the source jv used isn't credible, not disputing the costs/charges.

Did you increase your prices via UberEats to potentially profit rather than just pay UE? Did you get significantly more business to warrant those costs?

              • +1

@rompastompa: marking up prices in the uber menu that doesnt reflect actual menu prices goes against the terms in the ubereats contract. however, even if you do, ubereats doesnt do anything about and turns a blind eye to it because its the restaurants that bring in revenue for them. im pretty sure its in the contract only to protect themselves on a technicality legally.

when you deduct operating costs, COGS, electricity, wages, etc you left with about 5-10% profits from each uber order (eg you think your supporting your favourite restaurant with an uber order of $100. uber takes $40, approximately $40-50 goes to the operating costs, COGS, wages, tax, etc). restaurant is left with 10 bux. harsh reality and not many people talk about it.

ubereats is ubereats, these customers stay home and order in. the only reason restaurants still sign into it is because they want to deal with "volume", so even with 10% profits, if they had 50 orders, you can see that $10 is still $500 net profit in a trading day.

on top of that, if restaurants mark up the prices, they can increase it to about 20% net profits by marking up by x%.

if you wanna support your favourite restaurant, just make a phone order, pickup, tell them ud rather give the whole 40% to the business and who knows, maybe you'll receive freebies.

i always gave freebies to whoever knew and did this (its business and viably cheaper this way too)

                • @danieroo: Many places pay extra attention to UE orders compared to normal pickups, especially if they are staffed by casuals. If I find an item missing from my UE order, I can simply report it in the app and get a very reasonable resolution. With non-UE orders, I am forced to deal with the restaurant directly and appear ridiculous for complaining about missing small items (which are still significant to the meal, like sauces), wasting time and effort for no immediate resolution.

              • +2

@rompastompa: and god dam it, these codes don't work for me probably cause i order too much food through uber eats =(

                • +1

@danieroo: Thanks for the insight, I figured that'd be the case. The places we use UE for doesn't do delivery themselves, so this is additional sales for them.

The only time I did a UE pickup, I had a 15% off and tipped the obligatory $3. No freebies, but that's OK - they probably were cursing under their breath! I gave them $3, but they probably would've made $20 extra if directly ordered through them!

Also, none of the codes work for me either. I did recently need some hangover Maccas without vouchers.. It was a painful experience!

                  • -1

@rompastompa: I think someone said that if you did pick up uber dont take a cut as there was no delivery made?

                    • +1

@pyro love bird: pickups.. well, uber STILL takes a cut off pickup orders. i think they take a cut of 20% still from what i remember. uber will find a way to take a cut no matter what.

don't even use ubereats for pickup. if you want to support the restaurant, phone in and pick it up if you can and let the restaurant take 100% of the takings. let them know you do this as well as a good gesture may reap good rewards =) (obv if you tell a casual waitress she won't give a damn, speak to the supervisor or manager lol)

Enter the promo code below in the 'Promotions' section of the Uber Eats app, and your delivery fee will be covered on up to 5 orders over the next 14 days.

      Promo code:

      eats831

  • Worked for me but not two of my friends.

Usually it's the other way around.

  • On a lucky streak, 2 working targeted promos in a row

  • Why do I never get these :(

  • Worked on mine and wife’s account

  • Not eligible, would really like to know how they decide who is eligible for these codes.

    • The more you order, the less chance you will be eligble.

  • Success!

  • +4

Honestly so many restaurants increased their menu price, commonly around 20%, it made the free delivery insignificant now, especially you order multiple items at a time.

P/S mod, could you please remove my affiliation with uber. No longer driving.

I got 100 free delivery for next 30 days. Here is the code eats1460. Not sure if it's targeted. Minimum order $10.

    • i have the same code :D

    • thats hectic.. how come you are so lucky to get that

      • They probably use an algorithm to determine the optimal promo to give you to make you order the most.

    • Nice - I got 5 free deliveries for 14 days, but no minimum order cost.

  • I actually got this one

  • All good here, cheers OP.

  • I usually use these to grab the giant Hershey chocolate cookie from Pizza Hut. No minimal cost either.
