IKEA Överallt Reversible Cast Iron Pot (Lodge Copy) $34.99 (Was $69) @ IKEA

280

Spotted at IKEA Richmond (Melbourne), down from $69. There was a stack of them there. Felt very similar to my Lodge Combo Cooker in terms of weight. Great for sourdough baking! No idea if there are any in other stores, as they aren't on the Ikea website. The product code is 704.302.14 if anyone wants to check.

Not if you are wearing steel cap shoes.

True, but they are not included with the product.

The real question is what you're doing browsing at ikea in Melbourne

    • +2

Lol. Will report you to the police!

    • Cooking is essential service

    • +15

Goes on to show that people are not taking the restrictions seriously… and that's why Victoria is in the sh*t creek.

    • +5

Maybe the question should be - why is Ikea (and similar large corporate) is open and small businesses who also sell non-essential stuff are expected to remain closed?

I believe that Ikea is not an essential store/service, but if it is allowed to be kept open, people get the signal that it's ok to go there.

        why is Ikea open

        • Unless they sell it with the TP included, it is still not essential ;)..

      • +1

That's a good point. There is no real social distance at Ikea and everything is repeatedly touched all day long. Can't see any reason for them to be open in Victoria ATM

          meatballs.

    • Keep this up they will shut down everything except supermarkets.

      • -1

Then supermarkets won't have anything to sell.

By its name and via google, it might be from "a collection of African design". Also one ebay auction states it's 33 cm diameter - I'd assume that's the widest part not the bottom.

5 litres isn't huge, just keep in mind.

      The name is Swedish.

      • The name is Swedish.

Yup, that's true and, moreover, it means ubiquitous/everywhere in Swedish.

  • Hmm what's "reversible" about it?

    • +1

I believe they mean pot with skillet as lid, or skillet with pot as lid.

      • I was wondering if I can turn it upside down and cook the eggs at the button.

This is enamel and therefore doesn't handle the same heat as a non-enameled cast iron, so it's not really comparable to the Lodge nor is it suitable for sourdough baking if you're looking to push past 230C to replicate the commercial ovens. I looked into buying it for the same reason and you can tell there's a black enamel coating when you see it in store.

Oh really? Damn - good looking out!

    • +1

Yes good point, I didn't think of that. Actually the enamel looked pretty poor, you could probably sand it off pretty easily?

    • Not had any problems with our Aldi enamel cast iron at maximum home oven temp (260+) for sour dough.

      • Similarly have not had problems and cannot find any reference to this temperature being a problem for enameled cast iron.
