There are some reviews on the website for your perusal.

      • they seem pretty good

        • Can't really go wrong for the price IMO.

Found some feedback here —> http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1720233

Now to confince the minister of finance that we NEED this TV…

  • Bought one of these about 3 weeks ago when they were last on special at this price. Purchased for the kids to connect their xbox 360 to. Found the TV to be very good. Plays avi's off a USB fine. The only issue is the standard display settings (brightness/colour etc)need major tweeking when you first set it up. Fortunately there is plenty of adjustment. If you keep your expectations in line with a $300 TV, you'll have no regrets.

Edit: Cant comment of the FTA performance as I dont have an aerial hooked up to it.

    • Same here, bought it 3 weeks ago when it was last on special. We find it a great TV for the price - no complaints here.

    • Same. Got a few weeks ago for a master bedroom TV hooked-up to an AppleTV. HDMI and Freeview is good. No complaints at all.

  • For those who prefer better picture quality try the GE6606 (Dick Smith 32" LCD TV)
    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/GE6606/dick-smith-81cm-32-qu…

It's not LED edgelit, but it is cheaper.

    • How much better is the picture quality?

      • Only marginally better. Most simply would not notice the difference.

    • Why is the picture quality better on that one? It has a lower resolution…

    • Cheaper, but a LOT worse in energy consumption. Will cost a lot more in the long run, for very little benefit.

  • I must be the only one who has energy efficiency near the top of my criteria- I blame the carbon tax.

That model you recommend, scrimshaw, is awful, an abomination- should be burnt at the stake.

This one could be better- 255kWh per year is too much for me, but getting closer.

A cardboard box costs nothing per year.

You must watch a hell of a lot of TV for the running costs to be much of an issue!

(Not making fun, just highlighting the fact that the power consumption is based upon 10hrs viewing/14hrs standby per day. In Tasmania, at the highest tariff rate (26.34c/kWh!), it would cost $67.17 per year - $0.18 per day - 1.8c per hour.)

  • Is channel changing slow on these sets?

    • I find it ok to change channels but starting up is not that speedy. Overall good tv.

EDIT: 8 seconds to start up, 2 seconds to change channels.

I work for Dick Smith but do not comment on their behalf.

The store i work at which is a large format store in Sydney, sells this particular TV like hotcakes!

Only had 1 faulty (remote didn't work) out of over 80-100 sold at my store alone. Very good picture quality and excellent features list for its price.

Definitely worth considering for anyone in the market for such a product.

  • bought one of these the other month for my xbox360, brilliant tv. Be aware though if you plan to hook your pc up to it that it dosn't have 1:1 pixel mapping.

I bought this TV during the last sale but cancelled my order after seeing the picture quality in the store. When looking at the TV straight on, it looks decent but once you're off to a slight angle, the image is severely washed out. There was a Vivo next to it which uses standard CFL backlighting and the picture quality was significantly better. I ended up getting a Vivo LTV32FHD and couldn't be happier. Sure, it's not as energy efficient but it's day and night when it comes to picture quality. Also, it worked seamlessly (1080p with 1:1 pixel mapping) with my computer using DVI to HDMI (under Linux too!).

    • Anyone else noticed this issue with this TV?

      • Maclcom is spot on regarding viewing angle, as a tv the angle issue could be a biggy.

Having said that I am using one as a computer monitor and it works great, sharp image etc. (zero sharpness and contrast and work from there) via VGA.

      • Yeah I've connected this TV to my PC via the VGA and it looks perfect - extremely sharp. Haven't really used the HDMI features on it much so I'm not sure about the 1:1 pixel concern - but haven't seen any problems via the VGA.

  • I can also confirm Malcolm’s comment on the poor viewing angle. I managed to adjust the picture settings to my liking and thought I had myself a new TV until I watched it from an angle other than straight on. Even on a slight angle the colours are severely washed. Unfortunately for us we need the better viewing angle.
As a comparison the cheaper LCD version does have a better viewing angle.
