Aggregating Credit Card Gift Cards

When ditching my bank I converted a bunch of rewards points into 6 credit card gift cards. I thought I'd be able to add them all to my paypal or afterpay account so I could aggregate them all in one location, but they won't accept credit card gift cards which is a PITA. Does anyone have some tips on how I can most efficently use the cash on these cards?

  • Usually you can’t cash these out and online stores often don’t like them either. Probably best bet is to use them at the supermarket.

    • Damn it. So use the card until it fails, then get a balance check on it, then go to a staffed checkout and ask for split payment of exact balance + cash?

you can split the transaction at self serve checkouts too (including using multiple cards)

        • I didn't know that! Thanks.

Anyone else find the multiple posts this last week about using multiple low value prepaid credit cards a bit dodge?

    • This isn't a dodgy post, these are all my own cards from my own bank rewards scheme.

to make keeping track a bit easier, at checkouts i will split the payments and pay in multiples of 10, 20, 30 etc using the giftcard and the rest on my own.

    • That's a good idea, I like it.

  • If you use Amazon a lot, you can purchase Amazon gift cards to apply to your own account.

    • Hmm. Interesting. So I'd use one of my credit card gift cards to buy X number of Amazon gift cards then you can stack the entire lot into an Amazon account to be used as credit?

      • Yeah that's what I do to convert credit card gift cards (or avoid expiry) - buy a gift card and send it to myself.
