Theragun who has one and are they beneficial

Are theraguns worth it? Are they good value? Which brand/model do you own and what are the pros/cons?

  • JFC $500 for a massage wand? I highly doubt it's eight time better than any of the other identical reciprocating massage wands

      elaborate then

      • It's the Juicero of massage wands. Looking on Amazon I see dozens of similar products for $30-40 that have exceptional reviews. What does this product do that those cannot?

  • Theraguns are not massage wands, just to get that out of the way.

I got a massage gun from Amazon similar to a Theragun. It is definitely helpful for massaging sore or tense muscles far more effectively than using your own hands, especially around the shoulders or neck. You'll need assistance if you need to target your back, but you'd be in the same situation without one anyway.

    As far as cons go:
    * It is possible to overdo it by using the wrong head/intensity for the target area
    * If you're not careful you can hit bone which can be quite painful
    * Bruising is a possibility

yes helpful but get $170-200 xiaomi, good enough

  • buy off Dr Joseph Cipriano

  • I'm always dubious when it comes to devices recommended by chiropractors, this one is no different.

I'd be wary, seems like the equivalent of a thermomix, yes it does the job well, but you can also buy something that'll do 90% of the job for 1/8 of the price.

At the end of the day its a powerful massage gun. Price is subjective as to how much it'll help.

I for one am not convinced and it seems like a $30 massage gun out of China with $360 worth of marketing and paid BS.

  • Get this.
Just as good as a Theragun or TimTam.

You can make a mount out of PVC tube and affix to a wall to do your back.

Need a new marketing strategy friend

  • Sounds awfully Pete Evans ish.

  • I just use hard nippled massage balls against the wall and a Kmart back roller for the floor, total cost about $15.

Most pro athletes are still using a masseuse so how good can these things be?

    • Well 2 x $80 massages and I've paid for the gun easy. It doesn't replace a massage, but it can extend the time between them.

      • Depends how effective you can be with it on your own I guess. My problem is shoulders so a bit hard to do with a massage gun on your own.

        • That's where the PVC pipe mounted to the wall comes into it's own.

  • I got one of the $89 ones from Kmart (which I'm not sure they have anymore?) does a decent job, bruised the crap out of my legs the first time though lol
Only really used it a handful of times in a couple of months so not sure I could justify spending 5-6 times on a Theragun.

There's always the cordless jigsaw and massage attachment option if you're a true OzB'er

  • i bought a set of massage heads from ebay that pop in to a reciprocating saw.
seems to work fine. just stay away from bony bits :-)
