  • Cheers OP, this is a pretty good price (not the cheapest but not bad either). I know some people have had mixed interactions with DigiDirect, but just to share my experience, I bought a Mavic Mini Fly More from them a few weeks ago and it arrived via StarTrack the next day. I downgraded from a Mavic Pro 1 —> Mavic Air 2 —> Mavic Mini and I'm having a blast.

    • bought one myself. How did you feel without forward/back sensor?

      • +2

I've never really relied on the forward/back sensors or used the automated functions - I just fly manually and be aware of my surroundings. The only time I think those sensors would really be useful is if you lost communication with the drone and it returned to the home point on it's own. If the home point was behind trees or an obstacle it would run straight into them.

    • I am wondering, why did you go from an Air 2 to a mini? I know a mini is good, but when I am heading to any cliffs, those are the most amazing shots, and in those places, the mavic mini is completely vulnerable and almost useless because of wind and gusts.

Hey mate - I'm a very casual drone flyer and an amateur-pro photographer. I take photos almost every day, but I only fly my drone maybe once per month. So despite the Air 2 being all around superior to the mini - better photos (raw, more controls, better ISO), video, flying capabilities, radio signal, etc, I couldn't justify the $1,800 or so just sitting there. The Mavic Pro 1 was also superior to the mini, but I was looking for something smaller and 'newer'. So I sold it (luckily for what I paid) and bought the mini fly more for ~$600. It isn't as a capable, and the camera isn't as good (though it's better than I was expecting - very similar to the Mavic Pro 1 without raw), but it's perfect for my specific needs. I don't get that guilty feeling of having an expensive 'toy' sitting there doing nothing.

You are right about flying though - I am more cautious about flying the mini, and I am definitely more aware of the wind, but I'm pretty confident in the mini's capability and I would fly it at the coast. I've watched a lot of 'extreme' tests of the mini on youtube, and despite being aware of the risk of a fly away, I'm pretty confident that I could employ tactics to recover if it got that bad. (I don't normally fly beyond visual range anyway, so the drone is never more than 50-100m away from me)

So for me, the pros of the mini were:
        - very small, doesn't sound loud either (looks like a toy to passers by)
        - avoids registration with the GOV
        - 'good enough' camera
        - 'good enough' flying capabilities
        - cheap (comparatively)
        - the fly more combo with the small bag is perfect (I've used quite a few fly more packages and this is the best for my needs)
On a side note - I was really concerned about the mini being a 'WiFi' remote and not radio signal. I tried the Air 1 and I really disliked the WiFi signal because it would drop out or glitch all the time, and within short distances. But so far, the mini has been excellent - I've had no drop outs, etc. So it seems to have been improved for the mini, and it appears we have an 'FCC' model which seems to be able to use stronger WiFi bands.

        I hope that helps!

I'd recommend watching these videos, especially the first one in full:

Thank you for taking your time providing your reasons and experiences. They are pretty clear for me. And I understand you about the guilty feeling of having an expensive gadget gathering dust or not used as It is meant to be. So, in that situation, the mini is the best choice. That's what I've been trying to convince myself, but then I see the air2 capabilities and the possibility of getting it at 1700 and then selling a battery or other useless things, making it 1500 or lower, but still expensive for my use(I had the spark before, but I am totally a beginner regarding photo and video). I might consider your point. Thank you again.

You can still buy the fly more combo from BudgetPC for $699 with free shipping

    https://www.budgetpc.com.au/djimvminicom-dji-mavic-mini-fly-…

You can probably go to officeworks to price match for another 5% off.

    • seems like no stock at office works, will they just put it on backorder?

      • It was in stock this morning when I posted looks like they are outta stock now!

    • Hey buddy, is that definitely the fly more combo with 3 batteries and the charging hub? Because in their picture it only shows one battery. I'm looking to get one of these

  • Where do you guys fly these drones at? I have Mavic Pro 2 and I have no clue where to fly it around Sydney….Everywhere I go, it says I need to talk to park ranger. Since I bought it about half a year ago, I haven't even touched it at all.

    • I’d be happy to save you the stress and take it off your hands for $1000

    • I've gone through two different DJI Drones over 3 years, and gave up the drone life because of that problem! i tried to do the right thing and referred to the CASA app but all the places you could legally fly was just bs and boring. and even if you did, you'd get dirty looks from locals or people passing by.

honestly its great for adventures but you'd be risking a fine.

  • Thanks, bought mini as well.
