If you Sydney and Melbourne folk decide to come along then yes that might be the case.

Anyone have the dutch oven or that glass/ceramic pot? Alright for $15?

    • +1

I'm sure they'll be fine for that price.

Bought bit of kitchenware from Aldi over the years and its been pretty good value for the price.

      Every once in a while

    • I have the cast iron french casserole. Just note that it's a wide and shallow pan, not a dutch oven. It's fine for the price, but the enamel on the dimples on the lid has (after 2-3 years) started to flake off the lid. However I have sometimes put it through the dishwasher (not recommended). Also have a few other of their cast iron products with no complaints. For comparison, I also have La Chasseur and Le Creuset pots and while the Aldi quality is nowhere to that standard, I'm happy to pay 1/10th of the price for it. Pretty sure it's usually more than $15 as well. I wonder if most of the items are special buys that they had leftovers of.

      • Is that the enamelled cast iron? I believe this is bare cast iron with it being 'suitable for all heat sources'.

        • The French pan in the catalogue (the lower one in the picture) is enamelled cast iron. The dutch oven (the picture above with the glass lid) is cast aluminium. I haven't tried any of those.

          • @jehane: Ah ok, thanks. No FOMO for me then, I was hoping it was seasoned cast iron.

  • Does the opening sale come with a free dose of covid-19?

  • what sizes are available on the MTB
    oh, ACT only???

The new store at Amaroo only.

They have their MTB for sale every September in most stores.

  • The headphones are fairly average, but worth $15

  • Premium Adult Mountain Bike

    the 'aldi mtb' got upgraded
…premium for a supermarket that usually sells $89 bikes sure, but a bit of vivid imagination going on calling it 'a premium mountain bike'

    • +5

Not sure if you're joking, but this one is actually a proper premium one - from past research, I believe it's actually a Polygon bike with quite premium Shimano components. Definitely can't get anything similar for the price.

      • lol….proper premium
its an entry level deore 1x10 hardtail with terrible wheels, crap crankset & bb, brakes, saddle, pedals, tyres…its worth about $600-700 max. for $400 its fine if you spend at least another $300 upgrading it. hardly premium…more like lower end entry level

        • for $400 its fine if you spend at least another $300 upgrading it

Haha, $300? I spent $2200 upgrading mine (on top of the purchase price) and I still haven’t found any off-the-shelf bike that’s better - or anywhere near - for the same money…and I’ve been looking carefully.

          • @Lps: Was your original purchase price $400?

If not, what you spent on upgrading seems pretty irrelevant.

            • +1

              @jackspratt:

Was your original purchase price $400?

Yes, it’s the Aldi mtb. I do heaps of tricks on my bike so it needs to be light and strong, that’s why I put an $800 fork on it and $900 (discount price) wheels, and some other parts. And it’s holding up fine. If there’s a weak spot I’ll find it and replace it if necessary. Btw, I’ve managed to break parts on much more expensive bikes (read $6k+) riding the same style.

I had 2 options going into this - keep in mind I have no interest in a full suspension bike as it doesn’t suit my style of use. I could spend $5-6k on a hardtail I really like or buy a cheap one and replace bits (right up to the complete bike) as needed. I couldn’t find an existing bike in the market that I liked enough to spend that money on and I even looked at more costly ones (than $6k) so I went for this.

I may ultimately end up spending that amount of money anyway but at least I’ll have the exact bike I want. At this point it’s doing everything I need it to do and nothing is breaking or wearing out too quickly. And did I mention it looks freakin’ amazing? Mission accomplished.

              • @Lps: dirt jumping?

also had any issues with the seat? i just touched my 2018 seat coming out a bowl and (profanity) it. dropper post is the next step

        • I have seen an endless supply of bikes being dumped in skips and hard rubbish collections in the last year. I thought for $399 it would need to be better than this.
Isn't dual suspension and disc brakes par these days on a mtb? The skip bikes I grabbed are at least.

I do like the yeah/nah use on dirt advertising (as warranty doesn't apply if used off road).

          • @tunzafun001: This bike has disc brakes, and if you are scabbing bikes out of skips to use for yourself, you definitely don't want dual suspension.

You are also highly unlikely to get a better specced bike than this for $399 new.

          • +1

@tunzafun001: MBs come in many variations depending on your riding. XC, downhill, trail, gravel, 29er….. full/half/no suspension etc. Weight, strength, frame material, geometry and quality of components are what determines "quality". Your quality judgement depends on what you intend doing but arguably "quality" probably doesn't start until around the $1000+ mark (VERY rough guide obviously).

      • +1

ALDI has done a very poor job of advertising then.

I bought the Aldi mountain bike a few months ago and at $399 it's a bargain. I sold my 5 year old Norco and kept the Aldi bike as it was newer, had better components and had a more comfortable riding position. The Norco cost around $800. I'm still stoked with the Aldi bike and ride it around 4x a week, mostly around town.

  • Damn I want that cast iron dutch oven
