Computer Alliance jacking up price. Can we do anything about it?

I noticed the price of Synology diskstation ds918+ has been jacked to $849 from $739 this morning by Computer alliance. (Is new ebay 20% discount on the way?)

Price on their website is also jacked to $779 from $719. I cannot think any possible explaination for this price jacking other than incoming ebay discount.

Can we do anything about it?

P. S. I don't have any screenshots with old price, please share if anyone has it.

Note: Thank you OzB community for helping me to understand that my concerns were perhaps unfounded. I'm not taking down this post, so that if anyone comes across with same doubts, it may offer some help.

Why would they increase the price on their own website if there's an ebay discount coming?

Maybe their supplier increased prices. It happens.

But that would be case of new stock, right? Last time I checked they were showing 12+ quantities available. I don't have much knowledge about supply and demand, so my concern may be baseless.

That figure isn't their stock level, it's how many their supplier has.

What's the point of this post?

Prices fluctuate due to supply and demand. The end.

Price jacking aka as “free market” is legal - misleading consumers about it ( or discounts around a recently jacked price - Hi Ruslan) is illegal.

@ozpk, it could be Consignment Stock. Consignment stock is stock legally owned by the supplier, but held by the retailer, meaning that the risk and rewards regarding to the said stock remains with the supplier while the reseller is responsible for distribution or retail operations.

This means that even though it looks like they have stock of multiple items, they do not necessarily set the supply/demand pricing.

In any case, the retailer is legally allowed to set whatever price they want. If you do not like the price, buy from elsewhere.

  • How to take down the forum post? It seems indeed like useless rant after getting better understanding on this subject.

Not sure if you can take it down, but you could edit the post and add a note to the end to thank the OzB community for helping you to understand that your concerns were perhaps unfounded. That way anybody reading won't feel compelled to respond when no further response seems required.
