Thought it was a Speedy at first glance lmaooo

I'm 60 and tend to go for plainer less clutter faces on watches so that they are easier to read without glasses.

    • Yeah. Less is best

That is a really nice looking watch and a fantastic gift. Always loved Seiko watches. I wear my Dad's old Seiko 6139 automatic which is nearly 50 years old now. I hope your Dad has an awesome 70th.

  • Nice watch at this price.

  • Hi there. I did order turtle from last deal 2 days ago but they haven't contacted me about order though i asked them to update.

Now still waiting for their reply :(

At that price you can get a citizen eco drive with better specs if you wait for starbuy to put citizens on sale (sapphire, solid bracelet, etc etc).
Also, at that price you can get a turtle or a Samurai, they always go on sale.
Also, 44mm is big, check your dad's wrist size first.

  • Happy Birthday to your Dad, hope he enjoys his gift

Not sure when your Dad's birthday is, but I'd hold off and wait for something with a less "busy" dial. In the Seiko sports range, Samurais or Turtles are often in the daily deals.
The Presage models sometimes come up also, while not in the Sports category they are very classy and "punch" well beyond their price in terms of quality.
However it is a good deal if a chrono appeals.

  • Check out the Orient Defender if you're considering a chronograph. Less clutter and a more reasonable size.

Considering you dad is turning 70, like everyone else's suggestion here, a less busy dial will be best for legibility and simplicity sake (i gave my dad a chrono and he never uses it nor he bothers to figure on how to use it).

I assume you dad is a bracelet kind of guy and below are some alternative samples.
Citizen Promaster BN0190-82E : I have this watch but with the rubber strap instead. Solar powered just like the Seiko. Almost the same diameter like the Seiko but wears like a 42mm watch. On an average wrist, it shouldn't be a problem.
Citizen Automatic 200m NY0085-86E : If you can stretch the budget a bit more, this automatic watch will be more classy. At 42mm this watch will be universal fit for every average men wrist. The only cons is that it's automatic, your dad need to wear it almost everyday. A pain to need readjusting when he stores it more than 48hrs in the cupboard. These two alternative comes in different straps and colours if you want to look around.
So good luck with the purchase and please say happy bday on behalf of all the ozb users.

  • Thanks to all for your suggestions.

  • I caved in and ordered this in the morning after thinking about this over the weekend. Thanks OP for the heads up. It is a good price for this watch with Solar and Chronograph. I also watched a few Youtube videos to learn how the compass bezel works. My first Seiko Prospex Chrono.
